★TNR activity in Kawasaki.
My hometown Kawasaki, there are some cats on their way to our shelter.
I was thinking of doing sterilization for them, but time goes fast.
This year will finished soon.

I set some capture cages around the shelter with volunteers, but they haven't succeeded yet. It's easier at the feeding area.

Continue till the end of the year.

Oil heater for Kawasaki Animal Welfare center.

December 11, 2013
Oil heater for Kawasaki Animal Welfare center.

Accepted 2 cats that need urgent medical measures.
We donated an oil heater to Kawasaki Animal Welfare center.

The oil heater was donated to our shelter by a foster family. She was also volunteering last year. It was very kind, but in the shelter, some cats will pee on it, and also we try to conserve the space.
So we decided to donate it to Kawasaki Animal Welfare center.

1211-1.jpg

They don’t have independent room, and put the cages on narrow floor or in hallways.
For the winter, they bought a stove from their small budget.
Outside, they hang out so many blankets, laundry used by dogs.

1211-2.jpg

I hope this heater warms the animals and staff.

This year, zero dogs and cats were euthanized in Kawasaki Animal Welfare Center.
The chief manager and the staff made great efforts towards that goal.
However the situation is still difficult.
Over a hundred cats die because of serious injury or sickness.
Some were euthanized, but only after attempts to save them.
They had to euthanize, but not kill unnecessarily .So their concern now is how to save the wounded cats.
It is vital to have enough medical facilities, and to cooperate with other associations or animal hospitals. Since I started to go to Fukushima often, I could visit Kawasaki Animal Welfare center only a few times a month.
When I visit, I try to take on the urgently wounded cats, but I can’t do this every day.
Kawasaki city doesn’t say that they can’t be handed over until the deadline, like other cities. If treatment is necessary immediately, they can quickly hand over the animals. This is a fundamental matter for animal welfare.
I need more time to save them.
I feel strongly about making "zero euthanized" a goal in Kawasaki city.

Then I received 2 wound cats from Kawasaki Animal Welfare center.

It looks like traffic accident injuries.
V cut on the ear is the sign of sterilization having been done.
Is there anyone looking for this cat?Bleeding from eyes and nose.
Maybe head injury.
Looks hard to breathe.Urgently, I brought it to TNR Japan Animal Welfare hospital.
Then x-ray, treatment, ICU..... epilepsy symptoms.....

1211-5.jpg

The other kitten is around 2 months old.I don’t know what happened.
It lies there, and doesn’t move at all.
It looks hard to breathe.
This one was also brought to the hospital urgently.
The x-ray showed a dislocated atlas vertebra, and the axis at the neck, the nerves are cut off.
We don’t have medical instruments of that caliber of high technology.
I want to have it undergo surgery if the nerves can be connected.
I brought it to the advanced medical hospital in Yokohama.
But the result was that surgery wouldn't be possible.
There is barely a glimmer hope.

1211-8.jpg

This one is not from the center, but I protected it.It seems blind.
It was thin, but fine.
But now lying motionless.
After the examination, there are some bone and nerve problems.

1211-9.jpg

This is Daigoro in our shelter.
He had paralysis from a blood clot, but healed.
He was enjoying life, but then suddenly fell into a critical condition.
The veterinarian team in TNR Japan Animal Welfare hospital saved him, but he still can’t eat by himself.

1211-10.jpg

This is Kune, from Kawasaki Animal Welfare center. She has AIDS and leukemia and was very thin. She is sweet, and was having a fun life.
But now she has jaundice, and doesn’t eat much.
She is in the hospital now.

1211-12.jpg

There are so many cats that need treatment and care.
They come to the hospital one after another, but the hospital is always full.
I'm just can't keep up.
I wish Japan would become a more advanced country in regards to animal welfare.
For that, please do something, even if it is tiny thing.

捕獲駆除には限界があり、動物の命を大切にする国民性を育むためにも避妊化ワクチン等による個体数コントロールを導入してください。補殺よりも防除優先の徹底をお願いします。

About Us

Message from Akiko Yui, President and Founder of TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital
I believe that helping animals in need, existing in symbiosis with animals, and fostering a loving heart lead to an improvement in one’s character of kindness and generosity. The killing of animals due to decisions made by administration goes against my firm belief in preventing cruelty to animals. Animal Rescue Fund’s most important goal is to reduce the number of animals killed in Japan to zero by urging administration to change, reform, and improve the prevention of cruelty to animals. In order to reduce the number of animals in need, we work to raise awareness and support for the importance of sterilization operations. Each year, we spay and neuter more than 1000 stray cats. We are always putting animals up for adoption to help those lives already born in finding a loving home.

TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital:
We first opened our TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital in February of 2011 in an effort to make our dream a reality - to lower the number of dogs and cats killed in Japan to zero. At our hospital, we spay and neuter cats to reduce the number of unfortunate stray cats. Our hospital strives to help unfortunate animals in need of medical care.
The lives of numerous pets and livestock were lost as a result of the unprecedented earthquake and tsunami that occurred in Japan on March 11th 2011 and the radiation disaster caused by the stricken Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. Animal Rescue Fund goes directly to the 20km evacuation zone around the stricken Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant to rescue animals.
Animal Rescue Fund is based in Kanagawa Prefecture’s TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital. Therefore, the animals that we rescue from Fukushima Prefecture are brought to TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital located in Kanagawa Prefecture. Here, the rescued animals receive medical care and are returned to their owners or are put up for adoption.
We also work in urging the government and administration of Japan to support the protection of animals in need.
