In the future, dolphin aquariums will be closed throughout Europe, not only in Germany.
This is coverage of the situation in Germany, which will regulate the breeding of dolphins.

Germany is one of the more advanced countries concerning animal welfare.
Dolphin shows are decreasing sharply there.
Now they are going to regulate the breeding of the dolphins.
I visited a zoo in Duisburg city, which is in the western part of Germany.
This zoo has 7 dolphins.
The dolphin show goes on 3 times a day, and it is very popular for families.
But in Germany, a humane association criticized this dolphin show as being cruel.
One after another, zoos are now stooping the dolphin shows, and the breeding.
There once were over 10 facilities which had dolphin shows.
But now, only 2 facilities are doing the shows, including this zoo.
One visitor said that ‘it is not good for dolphins to do the show, but as a mother, it is good for children.’ It is a dilemma.
Another visitor said that it is not good to put animals in small places.
This zoo was told by the humane association to stop breeding, and also received an order from the court to reveal the breeding records.
A member of the breeding staff said that the focus shouldn’t only be on dolphins.
Other animals are just the same. This is one form of animal protection.
The zoo insist that the show is a place to study the habits of dolphins, and issues of the natural environment, and that breeding dolphins also serves to protect both dolphins, and biological research.
They are going to keep sharing dolphin information on the internet while continuing breeding.
On the other hand, the humane association aims to prohibit the export and breeding of dolphins in Europe.
A representative of the humane association said that in the future, dolphin aquariums will be closed not only in Germany, but throughout Europe.
In Switzerland, the law was revised to prohibit the import of dolphins, and regulations also advance in Europe.
In Germany, movement towards the full-scale prohibition of breeding of dolphins is expected to accelerate.

The life of the wild dolphin is more than 30 years.
The life of the dolphin in an aquarium is around 4-7 years.
We, Inuneko Kyusainowa, oppose breeding creatures in inappropriate environments and forcing them to do entertainments.
Fishing methods aren’t the only issues concerning dolphins.
Also problematic is the training of dolphins with painful techniques for the shows in aquariums, which shortens their lives in those rough environments,.
Wild dolphins can live over 30 years.
But the average lifespan of dolphins in aquariums is about 7 years.
It said 5.5 years before.
The Taiji Whale Museum calculated 4.3 years.
The following is an excerpt from the Animal Rights Center information.

We oppose the display of dolphins.
Wild dolphins are introduced into the aquarium.
Most of the aquariums have been buying dolphins at a high price from Taiji, Wakayama, where dolphin drive hunting is done.
The trading performance in 2011 was 131 bottlenose dolphins out of 186, (70%), and 24 grampus griseus out of 188 (12.7%).
These are captured by drive hunting and sold to aquariums in Japan and overseas.
Things like trained dolphin shows are never done in Zoos.
Normally people don’t care.
But most zoos don’t train animals to make shows.
However, most of the aquariums are doing shows to entertain people.
The aquariums say that the main purpose is the observation of habits, and the cultivation of aesthetic sensitivity for children.
But it’s stressful for the animals to make shows in aquariums, where they can’t find food by themselves.
Please imagine that.
Why do trainers give food after each performance?
To live in the narrow aquarium throughout an entire life.
Wild dolphins in nature move between 60km and 100km in one day.
The water tank in aquariums is much smaller than that.
As the result, many dolphins display stereotypical behaviors.
For example, elephants in zoos do repetitious actions like swinging their noses right to left again and again, or swinging their bodies right to left.
This is because of stress, and is an abnormal behavior indicative of frustration.
Do you still want to see the dolphin shows in aquariums?
Big progress on dolphin hunts!
Big progress on dolphin hunts!
Inuneko Kyusainowa has been protesting the dolphins hunts in Taiji, Wakayama.
Taiji should follow the strict decisions of both the world and Japan, and stop these cruel dolphin hunts.
Thank you so much for your cooperation with the protest activity.
This is a big turning point, one of our purposes has been achieved.
I deeply appreciate it, and hope for your continued cooperation.

Aquariums of the whole country can no longer buy dolphins from drive hunting.
Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums (JAZA) accepted the recommendations for improvement from World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA).
Concerning the issue of improvement, and WAZA’s expulsion notice to JAZA over violation of ethics by using dolphins from drive hunting in Taiji, Wakayama, JAZA voted on continuation as a WAZA member.
As for the result, staying in WAZA won a majority.
JAZA will report their intention to stay in WAZA in accordance the vote.
The members of JAZA will stop to buying dolphin provided by drive hunting.
The membership of JAZA includes 89 zoos and 63 aquariums, a total of 152 facilities.
30 aquariums were supplied dolphins from Taiji.
These aquariums may have a problem getting dolphins, and this might affect continuation of dolphin shows, which are popular for the children.
On the other hand, members of JAZA can continue to get animals like lions, giraffe, etc. though the world wide network of WAZA.
Due to dolphin hunting in Taiji, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, and other anti-whaling groups and animal protection groups, continue vicious harassment of the fishermen in Taiji.
The governor of Taiji showed displeasure, and said `the world torments us’.
He objected that there is a discussion of cruelty to dolphins, even though there are so many kinds of fish from nature in aquarium.
Stop cruel dolphin hunts. The World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) moves to disqualify Japan.

We, Inuneko Kyusainowa, have been protesting the dolphins hunts in Taiji, Wakayama.
In February last year, we met the staff of the Fisheries Agency to ask for abolishment of the dolphin hunts.
Please read my past blog.

At the same time, Inuneko Kyusainowa has been asking for the cooperation of Embassies in Japan of the countries which are against whaling.
I thank all people who sent e-mails or faxes to the parties concerned.
It was a small but very important step.
We have to go on to abolish the dolphin hunts.
We will oppose the sacrifice of any creatures, and the use them for commercial purposes, in the name of tradition.
We are such a small organisation, and can’t do anything without your support.
Please stay with us, and raise your voice for the animals that can’t speak for themselves.
Thank you so much.

The World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) brings Japanese dolphin fishing into question, and considers disqualification of Japan.
The Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums (JAZA, Tokyo) consists of 153 zoos and aquariums.
JAZA said that the qualification termination date was April 21.
The problem is that some aquariums bought dolphins from Taiji, Wakayama, where dolphin drive hunting is said to be cruel.
JAZA said that 30 aquariums have dolphins.
Some breed by themselves, or rescue wild dolphins accidentally caught in fishing nets, but some also buy from Taiji.
In Taiji, they drive a flock of dolphins into the inlet, and capture some.
This drive hunting violates an ethics regulation of WAZA.
If the qualification for WAZA ends, it will be difficult to continue exchanges of rare species through that network.
JAZA will examine the correspondence with the members and give a conclusion by the end of this month.
WAZA declared in the official letter, dated April 22, that ‘we request all members to follow the policy, which forbids cruel methods of capturing animals.
WAZA has worked to stop JAZA’s acquisition of dolphins by drive hunting for several years.
This issue was argued often in international meetings of WAZA.
JAZA explained that the fisherman had devised methods that reduce the burden on the dolphins, and tried to gain understanding for this reasoning.
Killer whale accident movie "BLACKFISH"
We, Inuneko Kyusainowa oppose to cruel dolphin hunting (both for food and for aquarium) in Taiji, Wakayama.
Dolphin hunting is cruel and also not safe as food as it has so much mercury.
If the dolphin is brought to aquarium, parent and child are separated by force and training with suffer continue.
The movie called “BLACKFISH” taking a subject of training killer whale.
This is shocking movie and had an impact on people.
This also influence with aquarium business.
Unfortunately “BLACKFISH” is not planned to screening in Japan.
“BLACKFISH” promotes the discussion about captured killer whale Tilikum and the death of 3 people.
Also it criticizes the training of marine animal in Sea World.
Isn’t using killing whale and dolphin for the show in aquarium animal abuse?
In fact, isn’t the accident in aquariums hiding?
USA is now in confusion of doubt.
Such argue in USA suggest the decline of show business with killer whale and dolphin.
Dolphin hunting has problems as for food and show business.
We Inuneko Kyusainowa strongly against with dolphin hunting.
Thank you for your cooperation.
