Civilian Disaster Response Command for Animal Rescue (CDCA)

Hitomi Nishizawa established Civilian Disaster Response Command for Animal Rescue (CDCA).
We, Inuneko Kyusainowa, support her!

It’s been 5 years since the Great East Japan Earthquake.
It never ends in Fukushima.
We don’t abandon the animals left there.
It is important to make systems for saving animals in such disasters.

After 5 years of rescue experience in Iidate, Fukushima, we built on our combined experience by forming an organization capable of saving animals suffering from the disaster. Not just desk work, but direct, onsite field work.

We, Civilian Disaster Response Command for Animal Rescue (CDCA) have no connection with Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue.

About the difference from Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue, and why we established the new organization;

We are an organization that goes to the afflicted area and rescues animals, not just one doing office work.

Due to the Great East Japan Earthquake, and the accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, still now dogs and cats await our rescue.
There are also some people who take care of big animals like cattle, for which it is not possible to find foster families under such severe conditions.

After the disaster, though it was possible to save many afflicted animals, this was not done by the government, but rather, by concerned citizens. This is a man-made disaster.
We continued the activity in Iidate, Fukushima, with expectations of support from Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue, which aims to rescue afflicted animals.
However their activities are far from our activity.
We wonder if they have visited the afflicted area, if they know the present conditions and suffering of the animals, whether their supporting material and donations have been sent to people who really need it, and what their aim is.
If there are future disasters, similar issues will be of great concern.
We have to start from zero. But we want to make an organization which could support people who really need help saving animals.

We, Civilian Disaster Response Command for Animal Rescue (CDCA) have no connection with Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue.

Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue is there to gather donations and support the local headquarters.
In the Great East Japan Earthquake, as an exception, they distributed donations to animal protection groups.
However they distributed enormous contributions to 3 groups in Fukushima without open public process.
These 3 groups didn’t go to rescue so many abandoned animals after they received this money.
The very opaque flow of contributions left a big problem.
We utilise our varied experience as one group, organizing a network system to rescue animals, and aim to enable the next generation’s continuation of practical activity.

Message from Akiko Yui, President and Founder of TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital
I believe that helping animals in need, existing in symbiosis with animals, and fostering a loving heart lead to an improvement in one’s character of kindness and generosity. The killing of animals due to decisions made by administration goes against my firm belief in preventing cruelty to animals. Animal Rescue Fund’s most important goal is to reduce the number of animals killed in Japan to zero by urging administration to change, reform, and improve the prevention of cruelty to animals. In order to reduce the number of animals in need, we work to raise awareness and support for the importance of sterilization operations. Each year, we spay and neuter more than 1000 stray cats. We are always putting animals up for adoption to help those lives already born in finding a loving home.

TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital:
We first opened our TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital in February of 2011 in an effort to make our dream a reality - to lower the number of dogs and cats killed in Japan to zero. At our hospital, we spay and neuter cats to reduce the number of unfortunate stray cats. Our hospital strives to help unfortunate animals in need of medical care.
The lives of numerous pets and livestock were lost as a result of the unprecedented earthquake and tsunami that occurred in Japan on March 11th 2011 and the radiation disaster caused by the stricken Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. Animal Rescue Fund goes directly to the 20km evacuation zone around the stricken Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant to rescue animals.
Animal Rescue Fund is based in Kanagawa Prefecture’s TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital. Therefore, the animals that we rescue from Fukushima Prefecture are brought to TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital located in Kanagawa Prefecture. Here, the rescued animals receive medical care and are returned to their owners or are put up for adoption.
We also work in urging the government and administration of Japan to support the protection of animals in need.
