Feeding activity in Namie and Futaba, Fukushima.

Feeding activity in Namie and Futaba, Fukushima.
Check the capture cages in the planned nationalization area.

It is beautiful a Spring, and people can go home during the day.
But the town is still quiet, we don’t see so many people.美しい

Danger: No Entry.

The houses are leaning, untouched for 3 years.
There are still so many dangerous places like this.

0425-2.jpg

This resident’s office was not broken on April 4.
But this time on April 17......

0425-3.jpg

From the position of the crack, it might be wild boar.
If the resident sees it, they'll be very shocked.
So I called them.

Then, after that, I went urgently to other feeding points.

The resident called me the next day and said "it was wild boar. We have to dismantle it anyway. So don’t worry".
Also, the husband fixed the food box in their yard, to protect it from wild boar.
Thank you so much.

This time, for the first time, the dry food was not enough.
We brought a jumbo can of “Legend of Tama”.
We left wet food in the water bowl.
It can be only for one day though.
I asked Nyanda Guard, who will come the next day, to bring more dry food.
It should be ok.

Message of Takeshi Koizumi at first trial.

Today on April 25 is the oral proceeding by Takeshi Koizumi at Supreme Court from 13:30.
By the judgment of the first trial and the second trial, the motive of the case is distorted intentionally.

At the second trial, Yagi presiding judge delivered judgment the death penalty to Takeshi Koizumi same as the first trial.
Yagi presiding judge said that it is strongly suspected that the motive was dramatized as an excuse. Thus we should not take much of it.

For the issue of administrative killing animals, why does the court not face frontally?
I am going to observe this oral proceedings.

<Message of Takeshi Koizumi at first trial.>
I agree with the charge in principal.
But I plead not guilty.
I still believe that I killed demon which has wicked heart, not human.

Wicked low Rabies Prevention Act made by the Ministry of Welfare which is current Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
By this low, innocent dogs are slaughtered idly every day.
I believe only demon which has wicked heart can slaughter which is evil, savage, cruel, simplistic, selfish, unfair and unforgivable.

Always people say that “that isn’t sufficient reason to murder people.”
I oppose this opinion.
“That isn’t sufficient reason to murder dogs.”

Explain before criticizing my revenge why only the life of people is holy!
Explain the reason to slaughter over 1000 innocent dogs!
Explain the reason to dispose pets like garbage!
At last, people with full of ego never understand me!

Why this is important to me.

SAVE TAKESHI KOIZUMI, A MAN WHO KILLED THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE RUTHLESS DEATH OF HIS DOG

Takeshi Koizumi suffered a tremendous emotional shock at the age of 12 when his dog was snatched by the dog catchers from his younger sister and culled almost immediately. On that day he vowed to avenge his beloved Chiro later in adulthood by killing those responsible for such cruel policies. 34 years went by since the accursed day when Chiro was put to death. In 2008 Koizumi places a talisman around his neck containing Chiro’s photograph and a few tufts of his hair, and goes to stab to death one of the former administrative vice ministers of the Japanese Health Ministry and his wife. This ministry and its administrative vice minister are responsible for determining the policy of the pounds ( the so-called Animal Love and Protection Centers) where, over a three-day period, cats and dogs are disposed of, suffering an agonizing death in gas chambers - the ‘dream boxes’ - , with no effort to look for adoptive families. Furthermore, in the past, before gas chambers became common in Japan, dogs were beaten to death, a fate that, in all likelihood, Chiro suffered.
Koizumi didn’t commit murder only for his Chiro; he rebelled against the whole system of putting animals down ruthlessly – he did it to avenge millions of animals killed over the years.
The boy who vowed to avenge his dog and the man who rebelled for the sake of the animals is now on Death Row, waiting to be hanged.
Please sign this petition in order to gather enough signatures to ask the Emperor of Japan, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Justice to grant a pardon to this man who already suffered so much, and the Japanese Supreme Court to consider this case with fairness and impartiality.

PETITION

The accused Takeshi Koizumi sacrificed his own life to avenge his dog Chiro who was killed 40 years ago in a so-called Health Protection Center. Please make the administration’s lack of an appropriate policy regarding animals a thing of the past and satisfy the following demands, so as Chiro’s death and that of a huge number of cats and dogs would not be pointless and forgotten.

1. Stop immediately the cull of cats and dogs and instead devise a system to send all those meant to be put down to official shelters or give them for adoption.

2. Make the easy and superficial trade of pets, as well as the functioning of pet shops illegal and devise a system that will allow those who wish to have a pet to adopt it from a shelter or an animal protection organization.

3. Devise a 5-year plan to support the education of the people to keep their pets for life, not to throw them away and not let them multiply.

4. Stop discarding pets towards private groups and educate these groups to support the administration.

5. As a responsibility of the administration, deal with and prevent the overpopulation of animals by neutering every year 50 000 stray cats.

6. Make it impossible for irresponsible owners, who are the very reason for the cull of so many animals, to own pets, by making it necessary to have an ownership license, except in cases when pets are rescued. If it is easy to own pets, it is also easy to throw them away and have them killed.

Cats and dogs are now considered part of one’s family and their life is as important as that of human beings. Nevertheless, in Japan about 200 000 cats and dogs are killed every year through suffocation in the gas chambers of Health Protection Centers and Direction Centers. Those who are thrown away, lost, cannot be kept any longer are taken by the administration and killed.

40 years ago, the beloved dog of a twelve-year old boy was killed in a Health Protection Center. When the family went to look for him, the dog had been killed. The boy became an adult and, to avenge his beloved Chiro, he murdered a former administrative vice minister of the Health and Welfare Ministry together with his wife. This ministry was responsible for the policy of eradicating rabies according to which so many innocent and healthy animals were killed. Takeshi Koizumi was sentenced to death for murder, attempted murder, planning murder and carrying weapons illegally and has now made an appeal to the Supreme Court. The main reason of the murder perpetrated by Takeshi Koizumi is our country’s ruthless and wild system of culling cats and dogs devised by the administration. After 40 years, since the convict’s beloved Chiro was put down in a Health Protection Center in Iwakuni, even today this reason is still valid and the cull of a large number of cats and dogs is still going on in Health Protection Centers or Direction Centers. Japan’s ruthless system of putting down cats and dogs is the very reason of this incident, and a trial that doesn’t take this into account cannot be fair. The state should understand Koizumi’s sadness and fury that his beloved Chiro was taken by the dog catchers and killed in a Health Protection Center in his tender years, and should conduct a fair trial, so that a second or third Takeshi Koizumi won’t show up.

If they want my life, they can have it! And let this country stop its cruel crimes henceforth. Stop your atrocious state crimes! Stop torturing and killing innocent cats and dogs in the most absurd and gruesome manner!!! Stop annihilating so many lives following the dictates of your human self-centeredness!

Can one call a country that butchers our beloved animals a peaceful country? Should this merciless country call itself a prosperous, happy country? Is it right to pursue this absurd killing spree in the wake of a wealthy, cozy life?

Finally, I keep asking: why is life sacred? Why is only human life deemed sacred? Why can humans always be forgiven, after senselessly taking away the sacred life of guiltless and helpless beings?

All where difficult places.
But I want to rescue all of the cats before this place is nationalized.

The wild boar destroyed the door and the wall.
The roof was hit by wind and rain.
We have no time to fix it.
At least we clean the broken piece, the resident thank to us rather than complain to be broken.

0416-10.jpg

3 years ago, all the glass doors were there.
Whenever I visit here, it is broken.
I protected so many cats in this place.
But still we can’t find the resident’s cat.
This area will be nationalized.

0416-11.jpg

The other day, I had a phone call from another owner of this house.
We protected their cat but still they let us use their part of their house for feeding.
The dog house is broken but they let us use it against rain.

Why she called me is that one person who was living in Ukedo where got serious damage by Tsunami still feels their dog is alive.
She told this person to ask a rescue party which rescued her dog and cat.

She still cooperate for missing cat and dog even after their dog and cat was rescued.

The situation has been changing.
We are in a hurry for our rescue activity from nationalized planned area.
Then now harder situation comes for left cat and volunteer.

Killer whale accident movie "BLACKFISH"

April 15, 2014
We, Inuneko Kyusainowa oppose to cruel dolphin hunting (both for food and for aquarium) in Taiji, Wakayama.

Dolphin hunting is cruel and also not safe as food as it has so much mercury.
If the dolphin is brought to aquarium, parent and child are separated by force and training with suffer continue.

The movie called “BLACKFISH” taking a subject of training killer whale.
This is shocking movie and had an impact on people.
This also influence with aquarium business.
Unfortunately “BLACKFISH” is not planned to screening in Japan.

“BLACKFISH” promotes the discussion about captured killer whale Tilikum and the death of 3 people.
Also it criticizes the training of marine animal in Sea World.
Isn’t using killing whale and dolphin for the show in aquarium animal abuse?
In fact, isn’t the accident in aquariums hiding?
USA is now in confusion of doubt.

Such argue in USA suggest the decline of show business with killer whale and dolphin.
Dolphin hunting has problems as for food and show business.
We Inuneko Kyusainowa strongly against with dolphin hunting.
Thank you for your cooperation.

TNR activity in Fukushima, Koriyama.

April 9, 2014
TNR activity in Fukushima, Koriyama.

So many houses were destroyed by the disaster.
People who had to evacuate were not only those within 20km area from Fukushima nuclear power plant.

Koriyama city, Fukushima prefecture.

0409-1.jpeg

What is happening there.

0409-2.jpeg

It is quite obvious.
The difference between here and the 20km area is that people are living in this town.
It means someone gives the food to cats.
There are so many black and white cats.
Even if they are increasing, there are no animal hospitals that offer sterilization prices.

0409-3.jpeg

0409-4.jpeg

These cats are pregnant.

0409-5.jpeg

They need TNR.

If someone could help us with transportation, we will adjust the date and time of missions. Please cooperate with us.

Fukushima
April 7, 2014

Again.

0409-6.jpg

And again and again I drove this road.

0409-7.jpg

Many cats are waiting for food.
Many cats are still alive there.

It takes about 3 hours.

I was always so sleepy while driving this road.
But since last year, Nekokatsu comes with me.
He drives the highway for the round trip.

0409-8.jpg

As soon as we arrive at the base, we prepare for activity.

0409-9.jpg

We have to think what we need, where and how.
Depending on the activity, we have to do it twice with full loads.

0409-10.jpg

From your support, we can bring the necessary food.

The car became so heavy, the body of the car comes close to the tires.
But I am happy that we can do this activity with so much food.

In these 3 years, I always thought that this time may be the last, and there won’t be a next time.
This anxiety increases more and more.

This is why I want to do my best each time.

Sigh....Sometimes there are things which are more worrying than radioactivity.

Please cat god!!!I want to rescue them all!

0409-11.jpg

As usual, I fill the food box with food.

The food box which was made by Nyanda Guard is strong.
From this food box, from supported food, from your cooperation, I don’t know how many cats were saved.

0409-12.jpg

This is the place where I walk in during the snow.
There are cars of decontamination workers, and other workers around there.

0409-13.jpg

Change the water.
I want them to drink clean water, before it gets dirty.

0409-14.jpg

At a town without people.

0409-15.jpg

Looks lonely.

0409-16.jpg

But dignified.

0409-17.jpg

Beautiful flowers are blooming.

0409-18.jpg

Sometimes I feel relieved with such natural beauty.

0409-19.jpg

There are many radioactive monitoring boxes everywhere.

Monitoring boxes are set at locations like the gathering places of residents, or near what, before the disaster, were schools.

0409-20.jpg

This is incredibly high....The air dose is still so high around this area.

Farther on, I saw a black cat that day, but I couldn’t protect it.
No cats came into the capture cage at the usual setting point.

Other volunteers are also continuing the rescue activity.
Some cats were rescued by them.
I am very happy for this.

Why I cooperate with Inuneko Kyusainowa is that the rescue activity in Fukushima involves cooperation with other volunteers, regardless whether it's a group or an individual.

Inuneko Kyusainowa is recruiting “transferring volunteers” which drive between Kawasaki and Fukushima.

If you are thinking "sure, I can drive" Or "OK, leave it to me"Please contact with Inuneko Kyusaiwano.

Miserable condition of cats in Fukushima

April 6, 2014
Miserable condition of cats in Fukushima

April 4th in Fukushima. There was heavy rain.

0406-1.jpg

This time, I wanted to set 4 capture cages around the Tsunami area in Naraha where I had seen some cats.
Then bring the food to other places in Naraha.

We gathered at 7:00am at Naraha point and loaded food, water and equipment.

Then went into the 20km area from the Tomioka checking point, as usual.

0406-2.jpg

There was heavy rain.It was also hard for the guard.

0406-3.jpg

This time, I also wanted to do TNR (Trap, Neuter and Return) outside of the 20km area.
It is hard to do both inside and outside of the 20km area.
But if I know cats are there.....

So it was a full schedule, and I can’t write about all of it.
This time I'll report to you only about the results.

In the 20km area, we set 13 capture cages very quickly in Okuma, which is a planned nationalization area.
Then 2 capture cages very quickly in Futaba, also a planned nationalization area.
Then set 1 capture cage in Namie, where I really want to rescue.

Then leave the food, one by one, so fast.
The time flew by, and we collected all capture cages.

We rescued a tortoiseshell cat in Futaba.
In this place, Team Nakamura had previously rescued 3 female cats and 1 male cat.
I called Nakamura, said that I had rescued a tortoiseshell cat.
Fortunately Nakamura accepted this cat.

No people in the planned nationalization area in Okuma.

0406-4.jpg

Next day, Nyanda Guard continues the activity. We, Inuneko Kyusainowa, leave today.

I wanted to rescue a thin cat that I saw 2 months ago around the Tsunami area in Naraha. But since then I haven't seen this cat.

But 2 cats came into the capture cage.

This is amazing! One of them, a tortoiseshell cat, had come into a capture cage before, but she was lactating at that time and I had to release her. After that I saw this cat, about a year ago, but since then I hadn’t seen her. She's alive!I brought food for her at the same place, and I really wanted to rescue her before she dies. She was not lactating this time.Good!!!

0406-5.jpg

The houses around Tsunami area are still there,Some life living so hard there.

0406-6.jpg

The house is completely changed.
I wonder if she was living in this house.

0406-7.jpg

0406-8.jpg

Returned to the Naraha base after feeding activity, rescued 3 cats in the 20km area.
Let’s take 15 cats that were captured for TNR outside of the 20km area.
Mostly female, because there are too many cats, and we’d better prioritize females.
hey released some cats to capture females.
Most of the females are pregnant.
I called TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital and told them we would bring 15 cats.
I wanted to have the pregnant cats get the operation today.
I called another veterinarian who was taking a day off and asked him to come for the operation.
I feel very sorry for this, but given current circumstances, we have to make this kind of decision.

While we were loading the cats, a Fukushima resident brought a cat after making a one hour drive.
But this cat had already started childbirth, and already had 2 kittens.
I offered a cage, and suggested she be allowed to continue the birth in calm.
I could only say please, let her take care of her kittens until weaning, and then let’s find their new families.

This resident said that in Fukushima (not only Fukushima actually), sterilization by animal hospitals is not inexpensive, even if the citizen wants to do TNR.
Any way one thinks about it, there's really no good way to help at this point. If new life is born, they have to just leave it, or throw it away.
This is the horrible situation at present in Fukushima.
We Inuneko Kyusainowa always say that the sterilization for stray cats should be done by the authorities, as a public service.
I hope the situation will be changed to this as soon as possible.
If we could make it happen, there would be no killing of dogs and cats.
Even though it would be fairly simple, authorities still don’t do it.
It's so irritating, so frustrating.

This time, we explore the TNR area in Fukushima from inside the 20km area to all Fukushima prefecture.
We will accept 50 cats for sterilization free of charge.
I want to accept as many as possible, but as we continue this activity in the 20km area, it is difficult to accept all.
It's a hard situation to manage, but I have to manage, and take care of as much sterilization as possible.

We need volunteers to help with this activity.
We need at least 4 people to work together for rescue, transportation, sterilization, and of course we financial support.
It's too hard for only one person to do all that.

The transportation volunteer work just involves driving between Kawasaki and Fukushima, about 4 hours.
At least for now, Inuneko Kyusainowa pays for highway tolls and gas.
We can also offer our car.
Even just 1 time is fine.
Please think about it.
I certainly would appreciate any cooperation.

Leave all to us.

March 28, 2014
Leave all to us.

This is the reprint from CAPIN activity report.
http://ameblo.jp/capin-blog/entry-11806611297.html

We get phone calls very often.
“Can you accept a dog?”
“A cat is abandoned. Can I give it to the shelter?”
“Please help.”

We also receive e-mails and faxes.
Normal people have problems.
They cry out for help, but there are no organizations and systems to help abandoned pets in this country.

If we must refuse it, they say;
“Then I'll bring it to the welfare center.”
“Then I have to kill it.”
Confronted with such threatening words, we have to face difficult choices.

The national and local governments don’t take responsibility for stray dogs and stray cats.
If the owner doesn’t come, they are killed in the animal welfare center after just a few days.
This is the solution of the government.
They said that disposition means not only killing but transfer.
But the overwhelming majority is killed.

If non-official organizations like us don’t protect them, they go to the animal welfare center, and are killed in a few days.

But we also have various problems, like lack of workers, space, and money, and we can’t accept them all.
Of course we want to help all of them, but if we can’t continue our activity, our dogs and cats in the shelter wouldn’t have any place to go, and they would be killed too.
That would mean transfer to the animal welfare center.

In fact, the dogs and cats that were rescued by our board of governors from Tsukuba city, riverbank of Senko Hanabi afflicted area, don’t have any place to go if we have to close the shelter.
We don’t know if someone will share this responsibility, or someone would offer emergency rescue.

If the representative dies, all those dogs and cats will be killed.
This is the reality of typical animal shelters.

It's place to deal with life, and it's necessary to take care of them every day.
We have to feed them, go for walks, clean, and play with them.
The dogs and cats await our care.
We manage the shelter together even if we also have to care for parents or children, have work, or get sick, we can’t just stop.

Slowly we lose volunteers.
Any job is difficult to continue, but the animal shelter simply must continue.
Because we take responsibility for life.

This is a fact, that we deal with living things and life.
This is not just working with material objects.
The responsibility is heavy, and there are so many difficulties.

The shelter is necessary to help them.
It is also a base for information exchange.
We will continue the shelter, despite the difficulties.

The physical labor is hard, but more than that, this work is emotionally so heavy.
We have chosen to face the fate of these dogs and cats..

Sadly there are some people who force the responsibility onto us.

“You have to accept them because you have a shelter.”
“They will help if you call them.”
“They have enough money.”
“They're getting donations. So they have to pay the medical expense for dogs and cats that were rescued by individual volunteers.”

It's not only the local government, police and general people.
Even self-styled volunteers leave the responsibility to us.

We have duties as volunteers.
There are so many troubles that after the rescue, they leave dogs and cats to someone to care for without paying medical expenses.
Among volunteers, we don’t neglect responsibility.
A person who rescues dogs and cats takes responsibility until finding a host family.
If a volunteer has to ask someone to take care of the dogs and cats, this volunteer has to pay the medical expenses, and participate in the adoption event, and then has to transfer the animal to the new family.

These are unspoken rules between volunteers who understand the difficulty.
This is to avoid problems like the neglect of responsibility by general people and the local government.

But still even among the volunteers, someone occasionally leaves the responsibility to others.
One volunteer offered to donate a cage and asked our address.
Then she left 2 cats in a carry bag.
We found it out because of a monitoring camera.

There are so many things that happen in this activity.
I am so sorry to talk about complaints.
What I'm trying to say is that the time has come to require public animal shelters.

Everyone wants to save dogs and cats.
No one, not the animal welfare centers, local governments, or police, want to kill dogs and cats.
It is shameful that the number killed is so high.
But there are no places to protect them.
No one knows how to find host families.
The medical expenses are a significant burden.

So everyone thinks organizations like ours, which have tools and know-how, can help free of charge.

We need to change the situation, as NGOs don’t have any support from local government, and have to manage with whatever donation we can muster up, making up for shortfalls with money out of our own pockets.

At least, I think, it should be ok to pay for the rent of the shelters, vaccinations, and sterilization, from tax.
There is high public interest.
This is why many people ask us to help.

For example, someone in Furukawa city asked us for urgent rescue, but finally they left us all their problems.
When we got a call, we asked Mofuna-san to check it out.Mofuna-san saw a real need for help, this dog needed urgent protection.
But no one would take responsibility for the necessary medical treatment and care after the rescue.
Nonetheless, she said let’s protect this dog. I will handle it somehow.
Alas, I understood how she felt.

The person who called can’t pay any of the fees, and can’t come to the shelter as a volunteer.
Unfortunately this person didn’t use even a little of their own time and energy in assistance.
This person just wanted help.
If the choice is to help or abandon, there's no choice other than offering assistance.

This forces us to act like some kind of animal police.
But why did the neighbors ignore the problem?
Why didn't the animal welfare center offer guidance before the situation got worse?
The owner abandoned responsibility.
This dog had to stay in the hospital, and have an operation.
It had not been taken for a walk in 5 years, and was emaciated, with so many tumors.
It cost over 100,000 yen for the examination and operation.
There is another tumor in it's belly.
It might undergo another operation after getting back it's strength.

This dog got out of the hospital on 20th, and Mofuna-san is, for the time being, taking care of it in her house.
His name of Jack. He's under medical care.
He enjoys going for walks, a pleasure that he hadn’t had in 5 years.
Following the rescue is a long road to recovery.
There are so many difficulties.
Bred thoughtlessly, kept carelessly, animals will be born to suffer. Irresponsibility should not be allowed.
In Ibaraki prefecture, many owners don’t go for walks with their dogs, and leave them in the cages without water.
Ibaraki is the worst prefecture in regard to killing dogs and cats.
Dogs and cats that must live in such places suffer greatly.
So do the volunteers who take on those difficulties.
Dogs and cats don’t have any words to complain.
But I do.
So please forgive me for starting the morning with complaints about such a heavy matter.

By Okame.

Harsh environment in Fukushima ③Namie-machi

March 26, 2014
Harsh environment in Fukushima
③Namie-machi

People can go into Namie-machi during the day, but we rarely see people.
The radiation dose is still high.
When can the residents go home?

0326-1.jpg

0326-2.jpg

The road where we were able drive last time is not still safe.
Please see the following photos.
It is still like this.
It is now 3 years since the disaster.
The houses are damaged by heavy rain, and it looks like they could easily collapse.

There are many such dangerous places.

0326-3.jpg

0326-4.jpg

0326-5.jpg

0326-6.jpg

We go on the usual route for feeding and water supply.

It is empty.

0326-7.jpg

0326-8.jpg

0326-9.jpg

0326-10.jpg

I feel exhausted, but there is a moment which gives me a warm feeling.
It is the smile of residents.

On the way for feeding activity in Namie, I stop by “3.11 rescue” as much as possible.

3.11 Rescue
http://okomenokiwami.blog38.fc2.com/

A-san, from dog team, has been bringing food to Murohara, where Inuneko Kyusainowa can’t go.
So I try to bring the food for Murohara to A-san, and “3.11 Rescue” mediates between A-san and I.

I could stop only for less than 5 minutes, but even if it is a short conversation with smile, I can recharge my energy by talking to a comrade who is desperate to rescue animals.

0326-11.jpg

Then this time,

One resident came from a temporary dwelling in Nihonmatsu to see me in Namie.
She came to visit a grave.

She brought me so many handmade rice balls coated with sweetened red beans, soybean flour, or sesame.
She said that her 2 dogs that were rescued are fine in the temporary dwelling.

Her house in Namie got so damaged.
The wild boar dig holes in the garden, and the storage got trashed.
Her dogs were rescued, and they are living together now.
But whenever she goes home she always leaves food and water for abandoned cats.
The touch of a person's generosity, it is a moment that warms my heart.

0326-12.jpg

0326-13.jpg

0326-14.jpg

Everything was so delicious.
Especially the chopped burdock root was so tasty.

Harsh environment in Fukushima ②Futaba-machi

March 24, 2014
Harsh environment in Fukushima
②Futaba-machi

I load food onto my car until it's full.
But when we finish one town, it is already empty.

Then we go back to Naraha point and fully load my car again.
The residents in Naraha refill plastic bags with the food donated by you.
We can save time and we don’t have to worry about rubbish in the 20km area.

0324-1.jpg

0324-2.jpg

0324-3.jpg

Thank you for your support.
We could load the car full.

We go to a part of Okuma and then go to Futaba.

0324-4.jpg

We have to be careful of patrol cars in this place where Sakura Mama keeps feeding.
Houses are few around the mountain.
Abandoned cats there have few possibilities to reach food.

I believed some cats are alive, and set the capture cage.
I fill the empty box with food.

0324-5.jpg

0324-6.jpg

0324-7.jpg

The raccoons and the civets come into the houses in empty towns.
They continue breeding, and suffer a tragic fate.

0324-8.jpg

0324-9.jpg

0324-10.jpg

This is a cool civet, with a white line on the nose, but living in desperation, coerced by powerful forces.

0324-11.jpg

What is happening on such a bloody trail?
Cats are not wild animals, and having been spoiled by people, aren't used to fighting their enemies.
This means they are weak.

0324-12.jpg

Well, who are you?

0324-13.jpg

Oh, yes raccoon dog.
I have seen many raccoon dogs with scabies and can’t recognize their real face.
This raccoon dog also has scabies around the eyes, but still has enough hair.
That’s going to be a very painful case of scabies.
I want to help them, but I need more bodies.

0324-14.jpg

When we arrived around the seaside at Futaba, rain became stronger.
Usually my body becomes warm during the activity even in the severe winter.
But this time strong wind blows the body wet with rain, and my body is chilled.

0324-15.jpg

0324-16.jpg

To be continued.

Harsh environment in Fukushima
①Ohkuma-machi

I have been working for animal rescue activity since the disaster, for 3 years, in Fukushima and the no-go area within 20km of the nuclear power plant.
But it was the hardest one this time.
I can’t use my left fingers well and I feel strong pain from my left hand to the left shoulder.
I can’t carry the heavy stuff.
I told my partner that I have to develop my muscles.
But she said I am wrong. I have to rest for such inflammation.Anyway, I feel my weakness.

We set 20 capture cages under the cold rain and strong wind, to save some lives before they die.
Then leave feeding for all areas, and then pick up all cages.

0321-1.jpg

We passed the checking point safely and go into the 20km area.

Back and forth between Kawasaki and Fukushima.

March 17, 2014
Back and forth between Kawasaki and Fukushima.
It was 3 cats today.

Thank you for coming to our adoption/fund-raising events.
A spoiled black cat, Hikaru, found a new family.
I will bring him to the new family.
During the adoption/fund-raising events, I went to Fukushima to bring back a mother cat that is nursing.

I arrived at Fukushima at 7:00am.I released her in Tomioka.
She ran into the cowshed.
Maybe her kittens are there.
I hope they grow up safely.

Then I set 15 capture cages there, and went on to feeding around Tomioka and Naraha.
At 18:00pm, collect the capture cages.

I rescued 3 cats.
I can’t release 2 of them, and accept them instead.
Another one is rescued at Naraha.
It may be a case for TNR. (Trap, Neuter and Return)I will think about it.

Nyanda Guard went to check the points within 20km area, which will be nationalized.
Thank you so much.

At Naraha point.
There was a cat on the roof of the shelter.
“Hello Siamese cat. Thank you for your work.

0317-1.jpg

This is Jun, rescued by residents.

0317-2.jpg

An old cat relaxing in the garden.

0317-3.jpg

An additional photo.

0317-4.jpg

I came back to Kawasaki.
But I will be busy again from early morning.

0317-5.jpg

0317-6.jpg

Please take a look of Gan-san’s blog.
There are many photos there.
I'll paste his blog below.

http://mike-neko.blog.so-net.ne.jp/2014-03-16

Going to Fukushima on March 5, Saturday.
Leave Yokohama at 1:30am and change to a light vehicle in Kawasaki.
The convenience store in the parking area is so convenient.
I can buy a drink that gets rid of sleepiness.
I couldn’t believe it became so convenient.

0317-7.jpg

We drove slowly.

0317-8.jpg

Dawn broke in Hitachi.

0317-9.jpg

The single lane road was so crowded.

0317-10.jpg

We arrived at Hirono around 7:00am.

0317-11.jpg

What?

0317-12.jpg

What what???

0317-13.jpg

It was like this in December.

0317-14.jpg

Like this.....

0317-15.jpg

Finally the road opened beyond Hirono.
We loaded capture cages at Naraha point and started capture work.
These cats are living in Naraha point.

0317-16.jpg

This place is seaward from route 6.
It's our first visit here.

0317-17.jpg

Stopped by Tomioka station.

0317-18.jpg

It is the same as 3 years ago.

0317-19.jpg

The building around the station is also the same.

0317-20.jpg

0317-21.jpg

This is a shop in front of the station.

0317-22.jpg

0317-23.jpg

The firm dike was shattered

0317-24.jpg

The red car was a fire engine.

0317-25.jpg

The electric pole is inclining.

0317-26.jpg

0317-27.jpg

During the setting of the capture cage, we came across a dead raccoon dog.
This raccoon dog seemed to have been alive until a few hours ago.
All of the raccoon dogs that I saw in Fukushima suffer badly from scabies.

0317-28.jpg

This is another raccoon dog body.
Would a crow peck at it?
Only skin is left.

0317-29.jpg

There are footprints on the field where decontamination ended.
Maybe this is raccoon dogs.

0317-30.jpg

Decontamination is everywhere.

0317-31.jpg

The decontamination garbage collects steadily.

0317-32.jpg

Where there's no space, bags are stacked up to three levels.

0317-33.jpg

We captured one cat.
3 of us checked whether this cat is lactating or not.
We squeezed her nipple but milk doesn’t appear.
We think she is not lactating.....But it is difficult to judge.
We can't all be confident.
We called Yui-san and decided to bring this cat to Kawasaki.

0317-34.jpg

There was a cat that has a collar. We set 3 capture cages, and went to collect other cages.

0317-35.jpg

We captured one cat in Tomioka.
This is a kitten.

0317-36.jpg

On the site of a high school,

0317-37.jpg

There was such thing.

0317-38.jpg

When we returned, a cat with a collar was in the cage.
This cat had this collar for 3 years.
The collar looked tight.
After we bring you to Kawasaki, we'll take off the collar and you can relax.

0317-39.jpg

It’s nearly dark.

0317-40.jpg

Moon.....

0317-41.jpg

When we returned to the point, the streetlight was off and it was completely dark.
We brought back the capture cage with a flashlight.
We received 2 cats from Futaba.
We brought a total of 5 cats back to Kawasaki.

0317-42.jpg

The streetlight is less in Jyoban street.

0317-43.jpg

We arrived at Kawasaki around midnight.
We checked 2 cats from Futaba.

It is an adorable tortoiseshell cat with a small mustache and

0317-44.jpg

A black cat.

0317-45.jpg

Yui-san said this cat is lactating.
Another nipple, which we didn’t squeeze, had milk.
Depending on the number of kittens; a cat doesn’t use all the nipples.
Yui-san brought this cat back to Fukushima.

0317-46.jpg

I returned to my home in Yokohama.
I feel relief when I see the Landmark Tower.

We continue the feeding activity.
But we start a new project in March to focus on rescuing the afflicted cats in the planned construction area for interim storage facilities.
The radiation dose is high, it's difficult to enter. The members will be fewer, but we stick together and carry this out.

Our aim is to rescue all cats from the planned nationalization area in Okuma and Futaba!

I feel anxiety about when this activity might come to an end.
But we act, rather than using time for worrying.
We set 15 capture cages, and check every hour.

We, Inuneko Kyusainowa, went only the first day.
Nyanda Guard went for the second and the third day.
Nekono Maria went for the third and the fourth day.
We cooperated well.
What a wonderful thing that Nyanda Guard made the shelter in Fukushima.
Members could join together, filling the gaps in our schedules. This is such a relief.

In 4 days of rescue activity, we rescued 6 cats. Thanks to the rescue team.Thank you all, for all of your support.

You are saved.

Fukushima, Namie and wild boar

March 7, 2014
Fukushima, Namie and wild boar

This is the landscape of Namie, where it has been 3 years since disaster.
During the day time, people can go in to this area.
We see decontamination workers sometimes.
But the houses have been abandoned for 3 years.

0307-1.jpg

0307-2.jpg

It was like this last month.
The house is collapsing down to the road, and a tree is breaking through the roof.
There are many dangerous and endangered places, that can easily crumble from snow or rain.

0307-3.jpg

This area is called Tateno.
Last time, the electric wire had fallen.

0307-4.jpg

This is the road where I carried food on my back.
I couldn’t see the ditch, and couldn’t continue to drive.
This time was ok, but some parts of the narrow road are broken.
I needed courage.

No one is helping me.
How I am going to do it?
Have courage.

0307-5.jpg

0307-6.jpg

Fill the food boxes, one by one.

0307-7.jpg

0307-8.jpg

0307-9.jpg

0307-10.jpg

The big bag of the food is just enough to fill the food box.Incidentally, I pick up the cardboard rubbish.

0307-11.jpg

We do this activity in 5 towns of Fukushima. But I think Namie has the most cats.

0307-12.jpg

0307-13.jpg

I sent this photo to one principal who was asking me to rescue a brown tabby.
The principal said "It might be our cat".

Continue to fill the food bins, and let’s hope.

This is a wild boar family. We look at each other.

This is the life that is not permitted to ocntinue.
I feel so sad, thinking about their future.

There is no symbiotic relationship here.

Fukushima, Naraha and swan.

0306-1.jpg

Decontamination is going on even in the mountains; tree branches and dead leaves.

0306-2.jpg

They get right down to where you can see the surface of the ground.

0306-3.jpg

This is the Tsunami area in Naraha.
There was a place where water always collected like a pond.
And there were some swans there.
It was so beautiful.

0306-4.jpg

This photo was taken last time, when we had snow.

0306-5.jpg

Many black bags of waste from decontamination, piling up just beside the pond.
I wished this small pond could be left for the swans.

0306-6.jpg

On March 5, 2014, I couldn’t see any of the beautiful white swans there.
It was covered by black bags.

0306-7.jpg

There is a swan pond in the front of this photo.

0306-8.jpg

What is important for us?
What do we need to care for and protect?

How can people be satisfied, and feel happiness?

Rescue cats before nationalization in Okuma and Futaba in Fukushima!!!

March 5, 2014
Rescue cats before nationalization in Okuma and Futaba in Fukushima!!!

Soon it will be the 3rd memorial of the disaster.

0305-1.jpg

0305-2.jpg

Tomioka is beyond the checking point.
On route 6, there are barricades on both side of the road.

0305-3.jpg

If you see me in a photo, it means a volunteer who accompanied me will have taken it.

0305-4.jpg

As soon as we get into the planned nationalization area, we set the capture cages one by one.

0305-5.jpg

0305-6.jpg

0305-7.jpg

0305-8.jpg

After we set all the capture cages, we hurry to another place for feeding.

After that we take back the capture cages.

This is not the cat of a client.
But some friendly cat came into the capture cage.

0305-9.jpg

0305-10.jpg

I was hoping to finish this activity safely and get on to the next place.

Then I heard the sound of car.Is it police, or a vigilante group?

We hide quickly.Still now we conduct our activity like this.

Then that car came close to us.....and stopped beside us.Finally......!?

What?
What’s this car???

0305-11.jpg

t was actually Nyanda Guard......
Don’t do this to me in such place.
I thought my heart had stopped.

Well, well thank you for your work.

0305-12.jpg

0305-13.jpg

We didn’t have time to chat, but only salute, and leave the area at full speed.

TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital Sterilization implementation count for February 2014.

March 2, 2014
TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital Sterilization implementation count for February 2014.

Cats female 72
Cats male 58
Dogs female 4
Dogs male 0
TOTAL 134

In February there were some cats which were already pregnant.
Cat-care volunteers are making great efforts for TNR (Trap, Neuter and Return).
TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital makes every effort to accept as many cats as possible for sterilization.
We have to do more sterilization, and reduce the killing of dogs and cats.
Also, veterinarians are necessary for the sterilization.
TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital doesn’t have enough veterinarians.
If you know of someone, please share this information.
Even one day a week is helpful.

+++++++++++++++++

★From Japan Animal Welfare Hospital.
We always wish the happiness of owners and the cats.
This is very dangerous kind of accident for anyone. Please be careful.

0302-1.jpg

※This is an x-ray photo of a cat which swallowed a needle, with thread.
With the thread still attached, the needle has stuck through from bottom to top.
The owner can’t take this out.
This cat has a habit of playing and taking things in it's mouth.
Please do not leave dangerous materials laying around.
Also I have heard that when someone changed the toilet sand to bigger sand, this cat swallowed that, and it collected in the bowels, necessitating an operation.

0302-2.jpg

※This is a case in which a cat ate many things from the trash box.
Rubbish from fried chicken was in this trash box.
Paper napkin, plastic, and a rubber band were taken out during the operation.

We have to be careful about things which have a cat’s favorite smell.
This cat was too skinny.
The owner gave it food in the amount written on the food bag.
This cat is adult but only 2kg.He/she was always hungry and ate something from the trash box because of the smell of fried chicken.
The education and the knowledge of the owner is so important.

“Satooya Café” (foster parent café) open soon!

March 1, 2014
“Satooya Café” (foster parent café) open soon!
1-24-1 Ebara, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo10 minutes by foot from Musashikoyama station

On February 28, 2 energetic men from Seinen Kyogikai visited TNR Japan Animal Welfare hospital.
Also, adorable kittens from Fukushima Nyanda Guard came for sterilization.
It starts soon!
Satooya Café will open at Ebara, Shinagawa-ku, which is close to our Togoshi adoption/fund-raising event place.
After the rescue in Fukushima, those cats will go into the shelter of Nyanda Guard.
If some cats find new families in this Satooya Cafe, other cats will come from Nyanda Guard. Then we can rescue more from Fukushima.
This is from the Rescue project in the planned nationalization area, Okuma and Futaba.
Please offer some support.

0301-1.jpg

From the blog of Nyanda Guard.
http://porkporkpork.blog120.fc2.com/blog-entry-1781.html

We think that there are 50-100 cats left in the planned nationalization area in Okuma and Futaba.
It seems about 1000 cats are left in 5 other towns just outside the 20km area from FukushimaⅠ Nuclear Power Plant.
We don’t understand why cats so severely affected by the accident of nuclear power plant are not protected.
We want to hurry to rescue such afflicted cats, before the government nationalizes Okuma and Futaba to make the interim storage facility.
We Inuneko Kyusainowa, together with other associations and individual volunteers, never rest in our efforts to rescue them.

Where is the food in Fukushima for afflicted cats?

Where is the food in Fukushima for afflicted cats?

I have to go.
But it looks like snow is deep just one step from the main road.

0225-1.jpg

0225-22.jpg

The front of the car is........the snow covers the ditch of narrow road and I don’t see well.
The width of road is just the size of my car.
I check it outside but......I can’t go....... Then we had to carry 20kg each of food.
I was soaked in sweat after walking only 10m.
I have to train my legs!!!
No strength at all!!!

0225-3.jpg

0225-4.jpg

The snow is gone in sunny places.
It's a cat, isn’t it?
We cat volunteers will mistake stones, rubbish, balls, anything, for cats.

The place where snow has gone, cats appear to find the food.
They are always hungry but they can’t move through such heavy snow to another place.
How many of them died by hunger?
How many of them freeze to death?
I want to rescue them faster.

Yokohama, Nogeyama Zoo.

Yokohama, Nogeyama Zoo.

Cruel recycling, the animals that we met become food.
http://dot.asahi.com/aera/2014021900004.html

This is a place for children to learn importance of life.
Animals are sacrificed for this.
What is the actual situation of Yokohama Nogeyam Zoo?Yokohama Municipal Nogeyama Zoo is about 15 minutes walk from JR Sakuragicho station.
It is a small zoo but there were 990,000 visitors in 2012.
In this zoo, there is an open space called “Nakayoshi Hiroba” where visitor can touch the animals.
It's there for the children to learn how to interact with animals, and about the importance of life.
However, no one explains to the children how these animals are treated in the end.

“Park Recycle”

The truth, explained a staff member, is that they are waiting for the animal.
"Recycle" means that these animals will be the food for other carnivorous animals.
The chief of zoo section in Yokohama city, Eiji Onda, said that we use the weakened animals, and the ones that have incurable illnesses and injury, for food.
Guinea pigs, mice, and chicks are used.
Annually about 100 guinea pigs, and several hundreds of mice, are given to birds of prey like condor, and snakes such as Japanese rat snail.
About 2500 chicks, from 3 weeks years old on up, are given to medium sized mammals like tanuki ("racoon dog"), or marten.
The chief Onda said that the chicks are basically purchased for food. They are delivered young and small, and are used for petting until they glow larger.
For snakes, they will be given as live food.
Others are killed, by breaking their necks or heads. Are there problems with this?
Breeding display chief, Matsumoto said "They die in an instant, and don’t feel any pain. We don’t announce it, but if the adults ask us about it, we explain it to them. We hope it can be dietary education. We will continue this.
It is obvious that this is abnormal use of a zoo.
The spokesman of Tokyo Zoological Park Society, which operates 4 metropolitan zoos and aquariums, couldn’t hide his surprise.
“I have never heard such a case.”

It is freezing!“Good morning!
Let’s everyone do our best!” Prepare for departure.
First thing in the morning, we set the capture cage in the area scheduled for nationalization.
t is dangerous to spend time here.
So we have to prepare well, for example setting the food in the cages and wrapping it with towels.
We set 12 capture cages in one area.
In the more afflicted area, we use more and tastier food in the cages.

Tottori prefecture is planning to reduce the killing of dogs and the cats by half, in favor of treatment and finding the new owners.

Tottori prefecture is planning to reduce the killing of dogs and the cats by half, in favor of treatment and finding the new owners.
(Mainichi newspaper, February 23)

The "future of people and animal center Amitie" opened last September in Tottori prefecture, Kurayoshi-city.
The aim of this center is to reduce the killing of dogs and cats.
Their protection activity will start from April.
The dogs and the cats which the prefecture accepted are moved to Amitie.
These dogs and cats are treated, and new owners found.
Tottori prefecture added up the draft budget for fiscal 2014 as 22 million six hundred thousand yen, and will contribute half of operating costs of Amitie.
Amitie is operated by Public Interest Incorporated Foundation “Animal Clinical Research Foundation”. (Kurayoshi-city, the chairman of the board of directors Yoshihisa Yamane)If the accepted dog or cat is healthy, they put in a microchip and give it to a person who wants it.
The institution can accept a maximum of 40 dogs and 30 cats.
Last December, they accepted 3 dogs from the prefecture.
Tottori prefecture accepted 1559 dogs and cats last year from the owners.
The owners' reasons for handing over the animals was house-moving, illness, and aging.
There was also some owner ignorance.
Tottori prefecture is now reconsidering the Animal Welfare and Management Promotion Plan.
Last year, they killed 1360 dogs and cats but they plan to reduce that number in 2023 to below 60 dogs and 500 cats.
To achieve that goal, Tottori prefecture looks to Amitie, which has medical systems to protect dogs and cats, and can find new owners.

Amitie operates with donations from members and supporters. The head manager of Amitie, Kazuaki Takashima, said "Our objective is to save as many dogs and cats as possinle."

3,900 million yen, Yokohama-city Animal Welfare center.

3,900 million yen, Yokohama-city Animal Welfare center.

Snowfall on February 14.
What is this beautiful building?

0222-1.jpg

This is not a school.

0222-2.jpg

This is Yokohama-city, Animal Welfare center.

0222-3.jpg

Yes, this became well known, as it is built for 3900 million yen.

0222-4.jpg

There is a large garden which the window overlooks. (I was refused entry in but I came in anyway)

0222-5.jpg

How beautiful it is.

0222-6.jpg

Well, you may wonder what I was doing there.
I didn’t go there to enjoy the landscape.
I went to join with the annual lecture for animal handling business.
I live in Kawasaki-city, but I was too busy to go to the lecture in Kawasaki last year.
So I decided to participate with the lecture in Yokohama-city.
It snowed from the morning but the guidance said that if the transportation works, they'll carry on with it.
So if the transportation works, and some people attend, hesitating to go due to snow would just be like an excuse. This is why I went there.
Some other people also came.
But when I arrive there, 2 staff came out and said it is cancelled today because of snow.
I said “Your information said you will do it if the transportation is not stopped.

”Staff: “I am sorry.
”ME: “Sorry isn’t good enough.
How can you ask us come again.
You're not showing much concern for people.
All of us took a day off to go there in the snow.

How they can let us go back?
I could see how they work in Yokohama-city Animal Welfare center.
I said that we came here following your guidance, and you should honor your promise.
I asked, "Is the lecturer here?"
They said the lecturer didn’t come.
What?
The person who teaches something should be there for the people who came to listen to his/her lecture.

Either do it or not.
What is the service being administered here?
The building is amazing.
The staff seem to think themselves to be so important.
Probably they don’t realize, don’t mean it that way, but....This would be impossible in private enterprise.
I came inside alone, though, and I told them what I think. The lecture is cancelled.
Then I thought it would be nice to let the dogs go out in the large, snow-covered garden.
The dogs will be really happy.
But such my expectation, and the dogs expectation, won’t come true.

Dolphin FishingThe primary factor behind the world's criticism of dolphin fishing? Is it the influence of movies, celebrities, and social media?

February 19, 2014
Dolphin FishingThe primary factor behind the world's criticism of dolphin fishing?
Is it the influence of movies, celebrities, and social media?

http://newsphere.jp/national/20140212-5/

The criticisms of dolphin fishing in Japan come one after another.
Caroline Kennedy, the U.S. ambassador to Japan, tweeted that she is “deeply concerned by inhumaneness of drive hunt dolphin killing. USG (US Government) opposes drive hunt fisheries.

Also the Government officials in Germany and UK, and Yoko Ono, have clarified their opposing viewpoint.
There were also news reports of American celebrities like Sean Penn petitioning President Obama to help.
Overseas media tends to oppose dolphin fishing.[Opponents of dolphin fishing in Taiji said is not “tradition”]On February 14, Saint Valentine’s day, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, which opposes dolphin fishing, conducted a protest action in front of the Japanese embassy in the USA.
Against the atrocity of Japan's whale and dolphin hunting Cathy Kangas, board of directors member of the American Humane Society (the largest animal protection organization in the world) applauded the statement Kennedy in the Huffington Post.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/cathy-kangas/a-valentines-day-gift-for_b_4759839.html

Kangas said that the Japanese government was apoplectic over Ambassador Kennedy's criticism. But the State Department backed her. We need more diplomats like Ambassador Kennedy, who are not afraid to call attention to cruel and inhumane practices against animals.
One Green Planet (.org) said that the argument of the Japan side, that the dolphin fishing is "tradition", is unfair.
The argument is that most of the Japanese feel the criticism of dolphin fishing is an attack on Japanese culture.
No one has the right to judge the food culture of each country.
However, the present dolphin fishing uses high tech equipment and techniques, and can’t be compared with the traditional fishing.
Dolphin fishing in Taiji, Wakayama, started 1969, which is very recently.
This cannot be truly called “tradition”.Taiji town is demanding that U.S. ambassador Kennedy visit Taiji and verify the "reality" that their fishing is proper. The killing of whale and dolphin may not be so much different from the killing of cattle, sheep and chickens, fin terms of ethical legitimacy.
However, from the point of view of health, it is well known that the meat is contaminated by toxic lead and mercury, One Green Planet said.
They also said that true motive of dolphin fishing in Taiji is not meet for food, but live dolphins to sell to underwater parks and aquariums, which earns a much higher price.Dolphin-drive fishing, which has been happening since 1969, is recently creating a different sensation overseas from what it had before.
The biggest cause of this was the Academy Award in 2010 for the movie “The Cove” (2009).This film has generated a rapid increase in interest of the media in dolphin fishing, US media Ecology reported.
The movie director Louis Psihoyos said that a good documentary film the work can have a continuing affect on the world.
This movie is already 5 years old, but still now it has power to pose questions.
This year, the argument is overheated even more.
This is due partly to the statements of some famous people.
Plus, the discussion in social media has also increased, making the issue a matter of concern around the world.

About Us

Message from Akiko Yui, President and Founder of TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital
I believe that helping animals in need, existing in symbiosis with animals, and fostering a loving heart lead to an improvement in one’s character of kindness and generosity. The killing of animals due to decisions made by administration goes against my firm belief in preventing cruelty to animals. Animal Rescue Fund’s most important goal is to reduce the number of animals killed in Japan to zero by urging administration to change, reform, and improve the prevention of cruelty to animals. In order to reduce the number of animals in need, we work to raise awareness and support for the importance of sterilization operations. Each year, we spay and neuter more than 1000 stray cats. We are always putting animals up for adoption to help those lives already born in finding a loving home.

TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital:
We first opened our TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital in February of 2011 in an effort to make our dream a reality - to lower the number of dogs and cats killed in Japan to zero. At our hospital, we spay and neuter cats to reduce the number of unfortunate stray cats. Our hospital strives to help unfortunate animals in need of medical care.
The lives of numerous pets and livestock were lost as a result of the unprecedented earthquake and tsunami that occurred in Japan on March 11th 2011 and the radiation disaster caused by the stricken Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. Animal Rescue Fund goes directly to the 20km evacuation zone around the stricken Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant to rescue animals.
Animal Rescue Fund is based in Kanagawa Prefecture’s TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital. Therefore, the animals that we rescue from Fukushima Prefecture are brought to TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital located in Kanagawa Prefecture. Here, the rescued animals receive medical care and are returned to their owners or are put up for adoption.
We also work in urging the government and administration of Japan to support the protection of animals in need.
