After the setting capture cages in Okuma and Futaba, we go back to the Naraha point, and then get a full load food for the second trip.
We will go to Namie next.
So many beautiful flowers amid the green of spring.
But that which occurred here was not long ago.
I can hear the cry of souls, “Do not forget.
Do not go away. Why do you treat me like this?”
I wish I could do this activity with a little more cheerful feeling.
But my feeling is so heavy.
I carry the food to the surviving cats.
I want to lessen their suffering.
I want to give them joy.
It must be lonely to be alone.
I saw this Siamese cat before.
It drags a foot.
It doesn't look young.
I don’t have enough time, but I try to set the capture cage in places where I have concerns.
We fill the food at all feeding points, and then take back the capture cage.
But the cage was empty because of such a short time.
3.11 called me about this Siamese cat later.
She saw this cat at the same place, and set a capture cage.
But it didn’t go in.
This serious wound might be from the disaster.
Poor cat seems to have been waiting for the owner a long time.
I want to rescue this cat if it comes into the capture cage.
We, Inuneko Kyusainowa, rescued 575 dogs and cats from the 20km off limits area since March 11, 2011, and took them to our TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital.
It is already over 30 this year.
This is very hard activity both physically and mentally.
I wish I were younger.
The reason I can do this is your support, and the cooperation of my fellows.
I need to do this a little more.

My father and I went to the animal welfare center to pick up Chiro right away but a woman on their staff smiled and said that the dogs captured in Yanai are brought to Iwakuni.
Your dog is not here. The dog won’t be killed for 1 week. It is Friday today. You can pick up your dog at Iwakuni next Monday.
So my father went to Iwakuni on Monday but Chiro was already slaughtered!
Chiro wore a collar!!
Chiro had a tag to prove rabies vaccination!
Why did they captur Chiro!Why did the animal welfare center kill our vaccinated Chiro ?!

Takeshi Koizumi suffered a tremendous emotional shock at the age of 12 when his dog was snatched by the dog catchers from his younger sister and culled almost immediately. On that day he vowed to avenge his beloved Chiro later in adulthood by killing those responsible for such cruel policies. 34 years went by since the accursed day when Chiro was put to death. In 2008 Koizumi places a talisman around his neck containing Chiro’s photograph and a few tufts of his hair, and goes to stab to death one of the former administrative vice ministers of the Japanese Health Ministry and his wife. This ministry and its administrative vice minister are responsible for determining the policy of the pounds ( the so-called Animal Love and Protection Centers) where, over a three-day period, cats and dogs are disposed of, suffering an agonizing death in gas chambers - the ‘dream boxes’ - , with no effort to look for adoptive families. Furthermore, in the past, before gas chambers became common in Japan, dogs were beaten to death, a fate that, in all likelihood, Chiro suffered.
Koizumi didn’t commit murder only for his Chiro; he rebelled against the whole system of putting animals down ruthlessly – he did it to avenge millions of animals killed over the years.
The boy who vowed to avenge his dog and the man who rebelled for the sake of the animals is now on Death Row, waiting to be hanged.
Please sign this petition in order to gather enough signatures to ask the Emperor of Japan, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Justice to grant a pardon to this man who already suffered so much, and the Japanese Supreme Court to consider this case with fairness and impartiality.

The accused Takeshi Koizumi sacrificed his own life to avenge his dog Chiro who was killed 40 years ago in a so-called Health Protection Center. Please make the administration’s lack of an appropriate policy regarding animals a thing of the past and satisfy the following demands, so as Chiro’s death and that of a huge number of cats and dogs would not be pointless and forgotten.
1. Stop immediately the cull of cats and dogs and instead devise a system to send all those meant to be put down to official shelters or give them for adoption.
2. Make the easy and superficial trade of pets, as well as the functioning of pet shops illegal and devise a system that will allow those who wish to have a pet to adopt it from a shelter or an animal protection organization.
3. Devise a 5-year plan to support the education of the people to keep their pets for life, not to throw them away and not let them multiply.
4. Stop discarding pets towards private groups and educate these groups to support the administration.
5. As a responsibility of the administration, deal with and prevent the overpopulation of animals by neutering every year 50 000 stray cats.
6. Make it impossible for irresponsible owners, who are the very reason for the cull of so many animals, to own pets, by making it necessary to have an ownership license, except in cases when pets are rescued. If it is easy to own pets, it is also easy to throw them away and have them killed.
Cats and dogs are now considered part of one’s family and their life is as important as that of human beings. Nevertheless, in Japan about 200 000 cats and dogs are killed every year through suffocation in the gas chambers of Health Protection Centers and Direction Centers. Those who are thrown away, lost, cannot be kept any longer are taken by the administration and killed.
40 years ago, the beloved dog of a twelve-year old boy was killed in a Health Protection Center. When the family went to look for him, the dog had been killed. The boy became an adult and, to avenge his beloved Chiro, he murdered a former administrative vice minister of the Health and Welfare Ministry together with his wife. This ministry was responsible for the policy of eradicating rabies according to which so many innocent and healthy animals were killed. Takeshi Koizumi was sentenced to death for murder, attempted murder, planning murder and carrying weapons illegally and has now made an appeal to the Supreme Court. The main reason of the murder perpetrated by Takeshi Koizumi is our country’s ruthless and wild system of culling cats and dogs devised by the administration. After 40 years, since the convict’s beloved Chiro was put down in a Health Protection Center in Iwakuni, even today this reason is still valid and the cull of a large number of cats and dogs is still going on in Health Protection Centers or Direction Centers. Japan’s ruthless system of putting down cats and dogs is the very reason of this incident, and a trial that doesn’t take this into account cannot be fair. The state should understand Koizumi’s sadness and fury that his beloved Chiro was taken by the dog catchers and killed in a Health Protection Center in his tender years, and should conduct a fair trial, so that a second or third Takeshi Koizumi won’t show up.

The hunters who exterminate wild boar in Miyagi and Fukushima are in trouble.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries takes nationwide agriculture damage seriously, and the number of boars captured has suddenly increased.
But due to influence from the accident at Fukushima No.1 Nuclear Power Plant, both prefectures are still subject to shipment restrictions.
Furthermore, burial land is limited.
People involved express concern that if the capture and disposal procedures aren't handled with well thought out regulations, the villages will be overrun by wild boars.
“Wild boars increase, multiplying like rabbits every year. In this situation, disposal can't keep up with capture”, farmer Kenichi Saito (66), a leader in harmful bird and mammal control, sighed.
Saito captured 56 wild boars in 6 months leading to March.
This is double the norm.
Before the nuclear accident, a processing plant in the town accepted all of them. But since radioactive cesium beyond the 100-becquerel-per-Kg national limit was detected, the shipment was restricted, and finally the processing plant closed.
After home consumption, everything remaining is disposed of.But for burial disposal, they need to find the land by themselves.Burning is most practical for sanitation, but it is necessary to dismantle the boar, which is 40-100 kilos, and to carry it by oneself.It takes time.There is only one incinerator plant in the neighboring city.Saito said "I bury them in my backyard. But the animals dig them up, and this breeds flies."Some people just don’t have more land for burial.
Due to this background of increasing capture numbers, a measure was formed in 2012 by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
This measure was made to decrease the damage to agriculture, subsidize the expense of capture, and urge capture of 300,000 wild animals.
In 2013 in Miyagi prefecture, they exterminated 3,500 wild boars, which are 60 percent more than the previous year, and in Fukushima, they exterminated 6,000 wild boars, which is 50 percent more than the previous year.
Neither prefecture can ship it as meat for consumption.
This damage amounts to about 68,400,000 yen (19,100,000 yen up) in Fukushima.
Even so, the environmental and agricultural conservation section of Fukushima prefecture emphasizes that they can’t stop capturing them.
The Miyagi prefecture farm and gardening environment section said that they are asking the local governments to secure burial sites, but it is also necessary to consider maintenance of the facilities.

The hunters who exterminate wild boar in Miyagi and Fukushima are in trouble.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries takes nationwide agriculture damage seriously, and the number of boars captured has suddenly increased.
But due to influence from the accident at Fukushima No.1 Nuclear Power Plant, both prefectures are still subject to shipment restrictions.
Furthermore, burial land is limited.
People involved express concern that if the capture and disposal procedures aren't handled with well thought out regulations, the villages will be overrun by wild boars.
“Wild boars increase, multiplying like rabbits every year. In this situation, disposal can't keep up with capture”, farmer Kenichi Saito (66), a leader in harmful bird and mammal control, sighed.
Saito captured 56 wild boars in 6 months leading to March.
This is double the norm.
Before the nuclear accident, a processing plant in the town accepted all of them. But since radioactive cesium beyond the 100-becquerel-per-Kg national limit was detected, the shipment was restricted, and finally the processing plant closed.
After home consumption, everything remaining is disposed of.But for burial disposal, they need to find the land by themselves.Burning is most practical for sanitation, but it is necessary to dismantle the boar, which is 40-100 kilos, and to carry it by oneself.It takes time.There is only one incinerator plant in the neighboring city.Saito said "I bury them in my backyard. But the animals dig them up, and this breeds flies."Some people just don’t have more land for burial.
Due to this background of increasing capture numbers, a measure was formed in 2012 by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
This measure was made to decrease the damage to agriculture, subsidize the expense of capture, and urge capture of 300,000 wild animals.
In 2013 in Miyagi prefecture, they exterminated 3,500 wild boars, which are 60 percent more than the previous year, and in Fukushima, they exterminated 6,000 wild boars, which is 50 percent more than the previous year.
Neither prefecture can ship it as meat for consumption.
This damage amounts to about 68,400,000 yen (19,100,000 yen up) in Fukushima.
Even so, the environmental and agricultural conservation section of Fukushima prefecture emphasizes that they can’t stop capturing them.
The Miyagi prefecture farm and gardening environment section said that they are asking the local governments to secure burial sites, but it is also necessary to consider maintenance of the facilities.

We cooperate with other volunteers, seeing to the capture and protection of abandoned cats.
First thing in the morning we set the capture cages at decided points.
The food box has been moved to an incredible place.
Maybe by wild boars.
But this food box is a life line for abandoned cats and their kittens.
We can’t stop it.
At the end of the day, we check all the capture cages.
If there will be no volunteers the next day, we collect the capture cages and fill the food box.
This is the routine each time.
Before, the volunteers went separately, but now we are sharing information and improving efficiency.
This is the place where the food box was moved.At the end of the day, one cat was in the capture cage.
I don’t want to get closer to the police car, especially when I'm carrying cats.
I get nervous when a police car is in front or in back of me.
Today there is a car between me and a police car.
This makes me more comfortable.

Social Democratic Party deputy party head Mizuho Fukushima presented the government with a questionnaire on the killing of dogs and cats on May 2.Fukushima said that approximately 210,000 dogs and cats are taken in by local governments, and approximately 160,000 of them are killed in this country over the course of a year. (Ministry of the Environment report)Local governments have attempted to cutback the number of killings, but the nation should actively confront this problem, not just leave it to the local governments.
She submitted information on policies such as those supported by local governments to reflect this in accordance with the revised animal protection law.
The government will show it's position on the matter two weeks later.
The questionnaire is as follows;
1. Does the National government prefer to actively support the local governments, not just leave the assistance for contraception and castration of stray cats as a responsibility of local governments and volunteers?
2. In the revised animal protection law, article 35-4, it states that the aim is no killing of dogs and cats taken by local governments.....(omission)....but rather, efforts to find foster families.
To realize this, it is necessary to change the animal welfare center from killing facilities to transferring facilities.
What measures will the government employ?
3. Individual local government make efforts to find foster families.
For example, Saga Prefecture Animal Welfare Center holds an adoption event once a month.
Kumamoto City Animal Welfare Center completed exclusive-use facilities for finding foster families.
Is the national government investing in subsidizing nationwide expansion of progress such as the building of these dedicated facilities?
If not already, are there any plans for such expenditures?
Deputy party head Fukushima also asked whether or not the nation grasps the actual situation of dog and cat distributors, and asked for an investigation of the actual situation.
In the revised animal protection law, article 22-4, dog and cat distributors have a lifelong duty to care for leftover animals.
Also in the article 10-3, the distributors must submit a “Health and safety plan for dogs and cats”, and must describe their management of leftover dogs and cats.
Deputy party head Fukushima thinks that it is necessary to investigate whether these regulations are being practiced correctly, and ascertain the actual situation of leftover dogs and cats.

This time, we go down the Joban Expressway and then go straight away to Naraha early in the morning.
It is too early and even the convenience store is not open.
So we stop by Country Road Station Naraha.
Lalala....There are a lot of police cars.Next time, I won’t stop here.I am not so comfortable.

Comparing Koizumi's feelings to my own

When I was in suffering from aftereffects of the traffic accident in 2006, I saw many tragic news stories about pets. One is the bankruptcy of a Dog Park in Hiroshima.
So many dogs died of hunger or sickness under terrible circumstances.
This country is lacking in specific regulations such as advanced countries have regarding pet businesses and the administration of zoos.
The local policy is more like one of noninterference.
Pets are therefore treated as commodities.
When the business fails, the pets are abandoned irresponsibly.
They die of hunger or sickness, or are killed in the welfare center.
I have been thinking about this situation since the issue of the Dog Park in Hiroshima.
I take it very seriously. Saddened by these present conditions, the more I think about it, the more the pain turns into anger and hatred.
I felt intense anger about the irresponsibility of indifferent response from government offices.
The second one is the news about a dog that couldn’t get away from the precipice.
After this dog was rescued, so many people offered to accept it.
I felt so much anger that the welfare center didn’t consider the happiness of this dog, but rather chose a foster family by lottery.
A dog is not an object.
The welfare center explained that this was because so many people offered, and the center should be fair to everyone. What is fair!?
The happiness of the dog is more important!! If the welfare center's priority was the happiness of this dog, they wouldn’t do a lottery. They would have chosen trustworthy people with adequate rescue experience.
This is why I was angry with this heartless welfare center.
In the end a housewife who has never had dogs before won this lottery.
Then my worries were confirmed. The dog couldn’t fit with that family, and escaped.
I found this on the internet. Also on the internet I researched this country's administration of slaughter. I found out that euthanasia in animal welfare centers is not euthanasia.
They are killed by carbon dioxide, not carbon monoxide.
This means they are killed by suffocation. In this country, the selfishness of humans affects the taking of innocent life. They don't think about how much pain animals have to endure when they are killed. They chose an efficient, safe, and easy way, but a cruel way to kill.
Pets are killed with intense suffering, frothing at the mouth and writhing in agony. Moreover, they don’t confirm the death, and some of them are burned alive.
I was severely shocked, deeply hurt, and angered by this fact.
Since then, many dogs have started to appear in my dreams and ask me to help.
Sometimes Chiro asks me to help them, and also scolds me.
Then I realized that I have a mission in this life: Chiro’s revenge.
My mission is to be the spokesman for thousands of, millions of pets that were killed in sadness, and to plea through my trial the case of their anger and pain. Before, I was thinking to escape after the revenge. I’d be better off dead than being arrested by such rotten nation.
But if I escape I can’t execute my mission. So I changed my mind. I decided to give myself up to the police after I finish my revenge.

I was so desperate to make an appeal to the nation and the local government, about the issues of Hiroshima Dog Park, Brucellosis in the dogs of an irresponsible breeder, and dogs on the precipice.
I thought then perhaps the animal welfare matter has advanced a little.
But the horrible situation continues for abandoned dogs, cats, birds, pigs and cattle in the Fukushima off-limits area.
I was so desperate to run in such battlefield.
How much difference is there in the feelings between Koizumi and me?
I felt the same as he did.
I didn’t kill anyone.
Because I was scared and coward. If I could, would I have killed anyone?
No way. Because I think murder is no good.
I am also against capital punishment.
However, if capital punishment continues, what about people who failed to rescue millions of lives, and instead slaughtered?
If all life is equal, how many capital punishments should these people suffer?
Can there be no real atonement for this crime?
Since I adored “The witch Sally” from when I was a child untill now, if someone asked me what I would like to be in the future, I always answered that I would like to be a witch, or invisible.
I want to scold bad people. I want to make people who have done terrible things to the weak apologize for that. People who are satisfied with their position, status and financial power, who can't be bothered to remedy acts of atrocious cruelty against the voiceless and powerless, people utterly lacking in compassion should be in jail until they change their mind.
This is why I want to be invisible.
Seeing animals in Fukushima die of hunger, my mind screams “Let me be invisible!” I thought "couldn't it be possible with the modern science?"
I want to be a person who can say what I think.
I want to be a person who can listen to others' opinions.
In Chiro’s revenge case, I want to see the original decision overturned.
I think about 500 dogs and cats that will be killed tomorrow.
If we rescue one, another one comes. Many like Chiro go into the disposal machine.
I feel bound by the practical limits on results of the hard efforts of humane associations and individual volunteers, As a contemporary Japanese citizen I can’t forget this case of Chiro’s revenge.
We handed 200 signatures over to the Supreme Court on May 3rd as a first step.
It is not only Koizumi who wounds hearts by the killing of dogs and cats.

Takeshi Koizumi suffered a tremendous emotional shock at the age of 12 when his dog was snatched by the dog catchers from his younger sister and culled almost immediately. On that day he vowed to avenge his beloved Chiro later in adulthood by killing those responsible for such cruel policies. 34 years went by since the accursed day when Chiro was put to death. In 2008 Koizumi places a talisman around his neck containing Chiro’s photograph and a few tufts of his hair, and goes to stab to death one of the former administrative vice ministers of the Japanese Health Ministry and his wife. This ministry and its administrative vice minister are responsible for determining the policy of the pounds ( the so-called Animal Love and Protection Centers) where, over a three-day period, cats and dogs are disposed of, suffering an agonizing death in gas chambers - the ‘dream boxes’ - , with no effort to look for adoptive families. Furthermore, in the past, before gas chambers became common in Japan, dogs were beaten to death, a fate that, in all likelihood, Chiro suffered.
Koizumi didn’t commit murder only for his Chiro; he rebelled against the whole system of putting animals down ruthlessly – he did it to avenge millions of animals killed over the years.
The boy who vowed to avenge his dog and the man who rebelled for the sake of the animals is now on Death Row, waiting to be hanged.
Please sign this petition in order to gather enough signatures to ask the Emperor of Japan, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Justice to grant a pardon to this man who already suffered so much, and the Japanese Supreme Court to consider this case with fairness and impartiality.

The accused Takeshi Koizumi sacrificed his own life to avenge his dog Chiro who was killed 40 years ago in a so-called Health Protection Center. Please make the administration’s lack of an appropriate policy regarding animals a thing of the past and satisfy the following demands, so as Chiro’s death and that of a huge number of cats and dogs would not be pointless and forgotten.
1. Stop immediately the cull of cats and dogs and instead devise a system to send all those meant to be put down to official shelters or give them for adoption.
2. Make the easy and superficial trade of pets, as well as the functioning of pet shops illegal and devise a system that will allow those who wish to have a pet to adopt it from a shelter or an animal protection organization.
3. Devise a 5-year plan to support the education of the people to keep their pets for life, not to throw them away and not let them multiply.
4. Stop discarding pets towards private groups and educate these groups to support the administration.
5. As a responsibility of the administration, deal with and prevent the overpopulation of animals by neutering every year 50 000 stray cats.
6. Make it impossible for irresponsible owners, who are the very reason for the cull of so many animals, to own pets, by making it necessary to have an ownership license, except in cases when pets are rescued. If it is easy to own pets, it is also easy to throw them away and have them killed.
Cats and dogs are now considered part of one’s family and their life is as important as that of human beings. Nevertheless, in Japan about 200 000 cats and dogs are killed every year through suffocation in the gas chambers of Health Protection Centers and Direction Centers. Those who are thrown away, lost, cannot be kept any longer are taken by the administration and killed.
40 years ago, the beloved dog of a twelve-year old boy was killed in a Health Protection Center. When the family went to look for him, the dog had been killed. The boy became an adult and, to avenge his beloved Chiro, he murdered a former administrative vice minister of the Health and Welfare Ministry together with his wife. This ministry was responsible for the policy of eradicating rabies according to which so many innocent and healthy animals were killed. Takeshi Koizumi was sentenced to death for murder, attempted murder, planning murder and carrying weapons illegally and has now made an appeal to the Supreme Court. The main reason of the murder perpetrated by Takeshi Koizumi is our country’s ruthless and wild system of culling cats and dogs devised by the administration. After 40 years, since the convict’s beloved Chiro was put down in a Health Protection Center in Iwakuni, even today this reason is still valid and the cull of a large number of cats and dogs is still going on in Health Protection Centers or Direction Centers. Japan’s ruthless system of putting down cats and dogs is the very reason of this incident, and a trial that doesn’t take this into account cannot be fair. The state should understand Koizumi’s sadness and fury that his beloved Chiro was taken by the dog catchers and killed in a Health Protection Center in his tender years, and should conduct a fair trial, so that a second or third Takeshi Koizumi won’t show up.

I felt so much anger that the welfare center didn’t consider the happiness of this dog, but rather chose a foster family by lottery.
A dog is not an object.
The welfare center explained that this was because so many people offered, and the center should be fair to everyone. What is fair!?
The happiness of the dog is more important!! If the welfare center's priority was the happiness of this dog, they wouldn’t do a lottery. They would have chosen trustworthy people with adequate rescue experience.
This is why I was angry with this heartless welfare center.
In the end a housewife who has never had dogs before won this lottery.
Then my worries were confirmed. The dog couldn’t fit with that family, and escaped.
I found this on the internet. Also on the internet I researched this country's administration of slaughter. I found out that euthanasia in animal welfare centers is not euthanasia.
They are killed by carbon dioxide, not carbon monoxide.
This means they are killed by suffocation. In this country, the selfishness of humans affects the taking of innocent life. They don't think about how much pain animals have to endure when they are killed. They chose an efficient, safe, and easy way, but a cruel way to kill.
Pets are killed with intense suffering, frothing at the mouth and writhing in agony. Moreover, they don’t confirm the death, and some of them are burned alive.
I was severely shocked, deeply hurt, and angered by this fact.
Since then, many dogs have started to appear in my dreams and ask me to help.
Sometimes Chiro asks me to help them, and also scolds me.
Then I realized that I have a mission in this life: Chiro’s revenge.
My mission is to be the spokesman for thousands of, millions of pets that were killed in sadness, and to plea through my trial the case of their anger and pain. Before, I was thinking to escape after the revenge. I’d be better off dead than being arrested by such rotten nation.
But if I escape I can’t execute my mission. So I changed my mind. I decided to give myself up to the police after I finish my revenge.

I was so desperate to make an appeal to the nation and the local government, about the issues of Hiroshima Dog Park, Brucellosis in the dogs of an irresponsible breeder, and dogs on the precipice.
I thought then perhaps the animal welfare matter has advanced a little.
But the horrible situation continues for abandoned dogs, cats, birds, pigs and cattle in the Fukushima off-limits area.
I was so desperate to run in such battlefield.
How much difference is there in the feelings between Koizumi and me?
I felt the same as he did.
I didn’t kill anyone.
Because I was scared and coward. If I could, would I have killed anyone?
No way. Because I think murder is no good.
I am also against capital punishment.
However, if capital punishment continues, what about people who failed to rescue millions of lives, and instead slaughtered?
If all life is equal, how many capital punishments should these people suffer?
Can there be no real atonement for this crime?
Since I adored “The witch Sally” from when I was a child untill now, if someone asked me what I would like to be in the future, I always answered that I would like to be a witch, or invisible.
I want to scold bad people. I want to make people who have done terrible things to the weak apologize for that. People who are satisfied with their position, status and financial power, who can't be bothered to remedy acts of atrocious cruelty against the voiceless and powerless, people utterly lacking in compassion should be in jail until they change their mind.
This is why I want to be invisible.
Seeing animals in Fukushima die of hunger, my mind screams “Let me be invisible!” I thought "couldn't it be possible with the modern science?"
I want to be a person who can say what I think.
I want to be a person who can listen to others' opinions.
In Chiro’s revenge case, I want to see the original decision overturned.
I think about 500 dogs and cats that will be killed tomorrow.
If we rescue one, another one comes. Many like Chiro go into the disposal machine.
I feel bound by the practical limits on results of the hard efforts of humane associations and individual volunteers, As a contemporary Japanese citizen I can’t forget this case of Chiro’s revenge.
We handed 200 signatures over to the Supreme Court on May 3rd as a first step.
It is not only Koizumi who wounds hearts by the killing of dogs and cats.

Takeshi Koizumi suffered a tremendous emotional shock at the age of 12 when his dog was snatched by the dog catchers from his younger sister and culled almost immediately. On that day he vowed to avenge his beloved Chiro later in adulthood by killing those responsible for such cruel policies. 34 years went by since the accursed day when Chiro was put to death. In 2008 Koizumi places a talisman around his neck containing Chiro’s photograph and a few tufts of his hair, and goes to stab to death one of the former administrative vice ministers of the Japanese Health Ministry and his wife. This ministry and its administrative vice minister are responsible for determining the policy of the pounds ( the so-called Animal Love and Protection Centers) where, over a three-day period, cats and dogs are disposed of, suffering an agonizing death in gas chambers - the ‘dream boxes’ - , with no effort to look for adoptive families. Furthermore, in the past, before gas chambers became common in Japan, dogs were beaten to death, a fate that, in all likelihood, Chiro suffered.
Koizumi didn’t commit murder only for his Chiro; he rebelled against the whole system of putting animals down ruthlessly – he did it to avenge millions of animals killed over the years.
The boy who vowed to avenge his dog and the man who rebelled for the sake of the animals is now on Death Row, waiting to be hanged.
Please sign this petition in order to gather enough signatures to ask the Emperor of Japan, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Justice to grant a pardon to this man who already suffered so much, and the Japanese Supreme Court to consider this case with fairness and impartiality.

I agree with the charge in principal.
But I plead not guilty.
I still believe that I killed demon which has wicked heart, not human.
Wicked low Rabies Prevention Act made by the Ministry of Welfare which is current Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
By this low, innocent dogs are slaughtered idly every day.
I believe only demon which has wicked heart can slaughter which is evil, savage, cruel, simplistic, selfish, unfair and unforgivable.
Always people say that “that isn’t sufficient reason to murder people.”
I oppose this opinion.

Explain before criticizing my revenge why only the life of people is holy!
Explain the reason to slaughter over 1000 innocent dogs!

The accused Takeshi Koizumi sacrificed his own life to avenge his dog Chiro who was killed 40 years ago in a so-called Health Protection Center. Please make the administration’s lack of an appropriate policy regarding animals a thing of the past and satisfy the following demands, so as Chiro’s death and that of a huge number of cats and dogs would not be pointless and forgotten.
1. Stop immediately the cull of cats and dogs and instead devise a system to send all those meant to be put down to official shelters or give them for adoption.
2. Make the easy and superficial trade of pets, as well as the functioning of pet shops illegal and devise a system that will allow those who wish to have a pet to adopt it from a shelter or an animal protection organization.
3. Devise a 5-year plan to support the education of the people to keep their pets for life, not to throw them away and not let them multiply.
4. Stop discarding pets towards private groups and educate these groups to support the administration.
5. As a responsibility of the administration, deal with and prevent the overpopulation of animals by neutering every year 50 000 stray cats.
6. Make it impossible for irresponsible owners, who are the very reason for the cull of so many animals, to own pets, by making it necessary to have an ownership license, except in cases when pets are rescued. If it is easy to own pets, it is also easy to throw them away and have them killed.
Cats and dogs are now considered part of one’s family and their life is as important as that of human beings. Nevertheless, in Japan about 200 000 cats and dogs are killed every year through suffocation in the gas chambers of Health Protection Centers and Direction Centers. Those who are thrown away, lost, cannot be kept any longer are taken by the administration and killed.
40 years ago, the beloved dog of a twelve-year old boy was killed in a Health Protection Center. When the family went to look for him, the dog had been killed. The boy became an adult and, to avenge his beloved Chiro, he murdered a former administrative vice minister of the Health and Welfare Ministry together with his wife. This ministry was responsible for the policy of eradicating rabies according to which so many innocent and healthy animals were killed. Takeshi Koizumi was sentenced to death for murder, attempted murder, planning murder and carrying weapons illegally and has now made an appeal to the Supreme Court. The main reason of the murder perpetrated by Takeshi Koizumi is our country’s ruthless and wild system of culling cats and dogs devised by the administration. After 40 years, since the convict’s beloved Chiro was put down in a Health Protection Center in Iwakuni, even today this reason is still valid and the cull of a large number of cats and dogs is still going on in Health Protection Centers or Direction Centers. Japan’s ruthless system of putting down cats and dogs is the very reason of this incident, and a trial that doesn’t take this into account cannot be fair. The state should understand Koizumi’s sadness and fury that his beloved Chiro was taken by the dog catchers and killed in a Health Protection Center in his tender years, and should conduct a fair trial, so that a second or third Takeshi Koizumi won’t show up.

If they want my life, they can have it! And let this country stop its cruel crimes henceforth. Stop your atrocious state crimes! Stop torturing and killing innocent cats and dogs in the most absurd and gruesome manner!!! Stop annihilating so many lives following the dictates of your human self-centeredness!
Can one call a country that butchers our beloved animals a peaceful country? Should this merciless country call itself a prosperous, happy country? Is it right to pursue this absurd killing spree in the wake of a wealthy, cozy life?
Finally, I keep asking: why is life sacred? Why is only human life deemed sacred? Why can humans always be forgiven, after senselessly taking away the sacred life of guiltless and helpless beings?
