In the USA, dissection of frogs has stopped, and been replaced by a substitute product.

Stop the sacrifice of frogs on a skewer in the Shinto ritual at Suwa Taisha shrine!!

In some schools in the USA, they use a substitute "digital frog" for virtual dissection, as the use of real frogs would be considered to be animal abuse.
Dissection of frogs has shifted to the substitute on the educational scene.
Suwa Taisha surine should use a substitute, such as a frog doll, for their Shinto ritual, rather than skewering live frogs.

Biology classes abolish the dissection in some schools in the USA out of respect for animal welfare.

Full article reprint:
Some schools in the USA have abolished the dissection of all animals in biology classes in consideration of animal welfare.
They have shifted to virtual dissection using computers.
The Humane Society and Animal Welfare Research Institute in the USA, which is against the dissection of animals, announced this on the 3rd.

This involves 7 schools, including Rancho Verde High School in neighboring Los Angeles.
They use software called “digital frog”.
The student operates the computer mouse, and can have an experience similar to dissection of a real frog.
The Animal Welfare Research Institute donated the money for this software to the school.
The school promised not to use real frogs for dissection for 5 years.

The principal of Rancho Verda High School told the local media that it is somewhat different from using real animals for dissection but not very different, and the student doesn’t lose anything.

A summary order was given to the man who threw away the corpses of dogs.

Formal accountability is important in making a society without animal abuse.
But life lost can never return.
May peace be to the afflicted lives.

From NHK news
December 10, 2014
A summary order with fines was given to the man who illegally disposed of the corpses of dogs.

1210.jpg

In Tochigi prefecture, over 70 corpse of dogs were found.
A former pet shop employee arrested in the case said to the police that it would cost a lot for proper disposal, and that bringing so many to the animal welfare center would create suspicion.

This former employee’s case was dealt with informally on the 9th, and a fine was levied.

This case involved 72 corpses of small-breed dogs found in Tochigi prefecture in a riverbed, and forest, between October and November.
A former employee of the pet shop, Masaki Kimura (39) was arrested.

A breeder who he knows closed a breeding business, and the accused man bought many dogs for 1,000,000 yen.
But the dogs died in a wooden box while being transported by truck.
He testified to the police that it cost a lot for proper disposal, and bringing so many to the animal welfare center would create suspicion.

This former employee was prosecuted informally on the 9th, and a summary penalty of 1,000,000 yen was levied.
An acquaintance of his, who was also arrested, was ordered to pay 500,000 yen penalty for acting as an accomplice.

Fukushima cooperative rescue activity in planned nationalization area Okuma and Futaba.

December 8, 2014
Fukushima cooperative rescue activity in planned nationalization area Okuma and Futaba.

Around this area in Futaba, I couldn’t set the capture cages until now.
It will be possible to set it with other volunteers.

1208-1.jpg

I hope the cat that I saw before is still alive.
I came to pick you up.

1208-2.jpg

1208-3.jpg

For the next time, leave some stock at the feeding point for setting the capture cage.

1208-4.jpg

The capture cage is already set.
At last, leave the food.
Bon Appetit.

1208-5.jpg

Bon Appetit.

1208-6.jpg

Difficult-to-return area in Okuma.
There are still so many cats there, but I only had time to leave food.
There are still more lives we could save in cooperation with other volunteers.

1208-7.jpg

1208-8.jpg

There is also no time to set the capture cage here.

1208-9.jpg

1208-10.jpg

By cooperating with other volunteers, the activity went so smoothly.
Only humans can save cats’ lives.

1208-11.jpg

We do screening after the activity in the planned nationalization area and difficult-return-area.
I feel relieved after taking off the protective clothing.

Then going for one more in Naraha.
This cat has done the sterilization.
He/she came into the capture cage again and again.
I left some tasty canned food.

1208-12.jpg

They are from Naraha.

1208-13.jpg

This is a beautiful long hair cat.
FIV positive and not so friendly yet.

1208-14.jpg

Another volunteer found this cat.
Very thin, hungry black cat.
She left the food for this cat and the next day it came into the capture cage.
6 cats in 7 that I brought back to Kawasaki already got vaccine, sterilization and anti parasitic.
But this black cat is too thin and has very bad diarrhea.
Parvoviridae Infection was negative.
Slowly, this cat needs to get nourishment, and get back it’s strength.

1208-15.jpg

This is a secret eating place in an earthenware pipe for a lactating cat.
Before Spring comes, at least by February, I have to rescue them.

We want to rescue as many as we can.
For this purpose, on the first day, the volunteers will set the capture cage all points.
We enlarge the range of the area for the setting of capture cages, and set them at the center of the mountain side of Okuma, which is a difficult-to-return area.
We could rescue more cats, but still left so many.

Nekono Maria set the capture cages in Okuma and Futaba,
Matatabi & Nekokatsu set the capture cages and did feeding in Okuma and Futaba, but far from the center.
We, Inuneko Kyusainowa, set the capture cages in the center of Okuma, and went to Namie B area for feeding.

Then
12/29 Nyanda Guard, Inuneko Kyusainowa
12/30 Nyanda Guard, Inuneko Kyusainowa, Madao
will take over the work.

☆Planned nationalization area, Okuma and Futaba.

This is Okuma, which is a planned nationalization area.
There were so many police cars before, so it was difficult to come to this area.

Koenji Nyandarazu continued the feeding, but it was difficult to cooperate and coordinate all together.
Each of us worked as hard as we could, but it was difficult to leave the capture cages for a long time.

I don’t know when the government will start to build the Interim storage facility.
But depending on the plan, this area would be difficult to come into.
We have to hurry to rescue all.

Nekono Maria set 2 capture cages already here.
A red tabby was rescued last time.
How about this time?

Yes!
I am very glad.

1204-1.jpg

Again a red tabby.
This is not the one that this resident is looking for.
But anyway it is good to rescue any of them.

I feel there are still some cats here.

1204-2.jpg

The food was not enough.
Nyanda Guard brought the food they have.
We fill up enough food to get more cats and rescue them.

1204-3.jpg

There is a food box at the innermost point.

1204-4.jpg

Leave clean water.

1204-5.jpg

Here is planned nationalization area Futaba.
As Nekono Maria set the capture cage on the first day, we could set it 3 days in a row.

1204-6.jpg

Someone in Futaba is looking for a brown tabby.
But I think their cat doesn’t have this pattern around the mouth.
Looks small.
It may have been born after the disaster.

1204-7.jpg

Madao put this so as to avoid crows and wild animals.

1204-8.jpg

We rescued 7 cats with everyone’s cooperation.
To be continued.

Shizuoka, Please immediately stop the cruel extermination of deer with poison bait.

November 20, 2014
Shizuoka, Please immediately stop the cruel extermination of deer with poison bait.

Urgent SOS!!!

Who devised such cruel thing?
Shizuoka prefecture developed the plan.
It is an experiment that puts bait with nitrates in a feeder, which then gradually suffocates the deer.

If the administration does it this way, I am afraid that someone else will do the same to get rid of animals.
Shizuoka should stop this cruel experiment immediately!

ASAHI digital, November 15
http://www.asahi.com/articles/ASGBP547SGBPUTPB01X.html

Shizuoka prefecture staff devised a method of getting rid of the Japanese deer, which cause damage, by using bait with nitrates.
This used the characteristic of the ruminant, returning swallowed food from the stomach to the mouth, and gradually digesting it.
They said that the time’s up for considering alternatives. This method involves less risk than using guns or traps.
They aim for a practical method, considering the safety of other animals.
However, some people say it is cruel.

It is devised by the Shizuoka Agroforestry Technique Research Institute, Forestry Research Center, Takahiro Ohba researcher.
When nitrate is in the stomach of a ruminant, bacteria change it to nitrite.
Then red cells lose the ability to carry oxygen, causing death from oxygen deficiency.

Researcher Ohba’s group experimented to obtain resident’s consent between January and February.
They confirmed the results, and also determined the fatal dose.
They also said that using contraceptives in the bait may affect other animals, but this method doesn’t.

Please take a look at the photo in the above news paper.
It looks like normal feeding, but it is an experiment with poison bait to kill deer.
We, Inuneko Kyusainowa, can never accept such a cruel act.
I demand of the governor of Shizuoka immediate cancel any such inhumane experiments. If you agree, please send your opinion to the governor of Shizuoka.

1120deer.jpg

Inuneko Kyusainowa sent a letter petitioning the governor of Shizuoka.

To Governor of Shizuoka, Heita Kawakatsu
From Akiko Yui, representative Inuneko Kyusainowa / TNR Japan Animal Welfare hospital.

November 19, 2014

Please immediately cancel the inhumane experiment using bait with nitrate.

The media has reported that Shizuoka prefecture has, with artificial feeding, devised a method to get rid of the deer using bait with nitrate.
They also developed the taste for practical use.
This method of culling is cruel, dangerous, and lacking in dignity.
We strongly protest the announcement of such a practise in our society.

1)To get rid of animals by poison bait is easy and cheap.
We are quite sure it can lead to criminals killing animals with nitrate or even other toxic chemicals, rationalised by Shizuoka prefecture’s government having set the precedent.
If private citizens imitate the poison bait strategy of Shizuoka, and scatter it, it may cause accidents for humans.
To announce such a killing method, using poison in bait, incurs serious responsibility.

2) Currently the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is budgeted and working on a commissioned research project for damage and breeding control of wild deer by contraception.

http://www.s.affrc.go.jp/docs/gaiyou/pdf/25026a.pdf

Work is in progress for the development of a male anti-fertility technique for wild animal population adjustment.

The project involves contraception of wild deer by manipulation of reproductive viability, by means of injection of sperm blockers.
The male deer doesn’t have sperm so the female deer doesn’t become pregnant, even after mating.
With a negative birthrate the following Spring, the number of the group doesn’t increase.
Representative Institutions Research Supervisor
Jyunko Noguchi (National Institute of Agrobiological Sciences)
Research term : 2013-2015 (3 years)

Shizuoka Agroforestry Technical Research Institute and Forestry Research Center researcher Takahiro Ohba denied the anti-fertility method to media.
However, in fact, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has a budget for it in practical application.
It would be best to devise a preventative fence and evasion methods as more humane methods for population adjustments.

The killing method using the nitrate bait is easy, but cruel, and extremely dangerous.

As the governor, please cancel / abolish the development and application of this method.

I believe that helping animals in need, existing in symbiosis with animals, and fostering a loving heart lead to an improvement in one’s character of kindness and generosity. The killing of animals due to decisions made by administration goes against my firm belief in preventing cruelty to animals. Animal Rescue Fund’s most important goal is to reduce the number of animals killed in Japan to zero by urging administration to change, reform, and improve the prevention of cruelty to animals. In order to reduce the number of animals in need, we work to raise awareness and support for the importance of sterilization operations. Each year, we spay and neuter more than 1000 stray cats. We are always putting animals up for adoption to help those lives already born in finding a loving home.

TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital:
We first opened our TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital in February of 2011 in an effort to make our dream a reality - to lower the number of dogs and cats killed in Japan to zero. At our hospital, we spay and neuter cats to reduce the number of unfortunate stray cats. Our hospital strives to help unfortunate animals in need of medical care.
The lives of numerous pets and livestock were lost as a result of the unprecedented earthquake and tsunami that occurred in Japan on March 11th 2011 and the radiation disaster caused by the stricken Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. Animal Rescue Fund goes directly to the 20km evacuation zone around the stricken Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant to rescue animals.
Animal Rescue Fund is based in Kanagawa Prefecture’s TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital. Therefore, the animals that we rescue from Fukushima Prefecture are brought to TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital located in Kanagawa Prefecture. Here, the rescued animals receive medical care and are returned to their owners or are put up for adoption.
We also work in urging the government and administration of Japan to support the protection of animals in need.
