☆Beyond the checkpoint in Fukushima.

April 9, 2016
☆Beyond the checkpoint in Fukushima.

3 times a year, there are month-long periods during which permissions to enter are not granted.
This means that cats beyond the our reach don’t have any food.
We have to bring food somehow.
We think so hard about how to go in, but it is so difficult.
Anyway, we have to do something.

Matatabi, Nekokatsu, and I, all took decisive action, at least in places where we had seen cats.

This is food which was sent from all over the country.
We certainly bring it to the cats.

There are lives which no one has rescued.
There is one individual volunteer who has kept going to Fukushima for these 5 years, under hard conditions.
I called her before we went, she was depressed that she couldn’t find a way to go into the area.
So we also have to do places where she always goes.

Okuma.
The storage area for radioactive pollutants spreads quickly and widely.
It is not possible to go into Okuma during this period.
I thought no one would be there.
But so many people were working for decontamination.

It seems the government wants to show the reconstruction of Okuma to the world by the time the Olympics begin.
So many people can go in for decontamination, but not animal rescue.

Well, we must concentrate on what we have to do.

Cherry blossoms are in full bloom.
We hurry to the resident’s house, for the cats.

Hurry on to the next site.

Just beyond Okuma is the sea.
We brought as much food as we could.
We can help avoid starvation of cats.

I thank you so much for cooperation with this activity.

The next activity in Fukushima will be on the 15th and 16th.
Please support us.

☆The present conditions of the suffering animals in Fukushima. Cooperative rescue activity.

☆The present conditions of the suffering animals in Fukushima.
Cooperative rescue activity.

The last entrance allowed at the checkpoint was March 22.
We can’t go into the area for a month during 3 periods each year.
We feel so uneasy thinking about the hunger of the cats.
We always try to find ways to pass through the checkpoint.
We have to make the impossible possible.
Otherwise we can’t rescue cats from uninhabited places.

It’s been 5 years since disaster.
Now there are less than 10 volunteers.
We can’t get any official support, and sometimes rescue activity is not even appreciated.
We work so hard during the week day to earn money to go to Fukushima, along with taking care of rescued cats, and trying to find foster families for them.
On weekends, we go to Fukushima, and work ourselves to physical exhaustion, without even enough sleep.

Since our last activity on March 22, the food in the food boxes has run out.
The wait for the next entrance permission is too long.
We have to make the impossible possible, but we don’t know what to do.

This is a picture from the sensor camera.
I really want to rescue this cat.
This house had many cats, but I don’t see any cats when I am there.
Now we know from the sensor camera that this cat is there.
He/She is alone, and looks lonely.
There is a food box on the shelf.
We have to keep filing it with food.

We have to rescue this cat too.

☆The 6th year of our activities started in Fukushima. We rescued 2 black cats.

Cooperative rescue activity in Fukushima.
It was supposed to be done in 2 days, but it took 3.
We rescued 2 cats, and brought them home.
Thank you so much for your cooperation.

I am too tired.
I will report to you about these cats later.

From March 23, we won’t be able to cross barricades.
Next week, we will do 3 days rescue activity and try to rescue cats from Futaba and Okuma, very close to the nuclear power plant.

We need more food.
We would appreciate it if you can support us with donations of cat food.

◆Please send the food by Takkyubin, designated for morning arrival, but do not designate the date.

The Great East Japan Earthquake occurred on March 11, 2011, and brought unprecedented damage and deep sorrow.
It’s been 5 years since the accident of the Fukushima 1 Nuclear Power Plant.

My thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by this disaster.
I would like to offer my deepest sympathies for the victims.

◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇

I went to Fukushima yesterday, on March 11, with Inuneko Kyusainowa.

0312-1.jpg

These cats are also suffering.

0312-2.jpg

But the residents love them.

0312-3.jpg

I am looking forward to meeting them once every 2 weeks.

0312-4.jpg

0312-5.jpg

As usual

0312-6.jpg

Bring the food and the water from the Naraha base.

I also visited the tsunami area.

Time is stopped on March 11, 2011.

I can still feel life from the remaining foundations of a house.

0312-15.jpg

My chest feels tight from sorrow.
How frightening it was.

0312-16.jpg

There are still cats in this town, and neighboring towns where entrance is also highly restricted.

0312-17.jpg

Yesterday, on March 11, the decontamination workers had the day off.

This is Futaba.
The radiation is shown by the color of the flag.

0312-25.jpg

Once the laughter of people was heard on this shopping street.

On March 11, after finishing activities, I offered a flower, and prayed silently.

0312-26.jpg

Never forget.

0312-27.jpg

Never forget the animals that have been waiting for us for so long.

0312-28.jpg

Please do not forget the lives still remaining there.

0312-29.jpg

Please do not forget the people who diligently endure hardships while trying to save them.

And this never ends.

Please send food and support for the cats in Fukushima to Inuneko Kyusainowa.

Please send it by Takkyubin, designated for morning arrival, but do not designate the the date.

☆5 years since the Great East Japan Earthquake.
The present situation of cats left in Okuma, Fukushima.

We never stop the feeding and water supply.

0308-1_20160323131144533.jpg

Times has stood still since that disaster.
Sometimes we stumble, sometimes fall.

0308-2_201603231311464a9.jpg

We never have enough time.
But we try to keep the resident’s houses clean.

This is the only one in the world.
This is called Pallet House, for afflicted cats in the planned nationalization area, Okuma.
Yes, Madao made it.
He has so many great ideas.

The purpose of this Pallet House is to prevent wild boar from entering.
Even heavy concrete block doesn’t work for wild boar, but this Pallet House is great.

Cats go into this house and eat the food.
When I go there, I set the capture cage in it.

It’s been 5 years since the Great East Japan Earthquake.
We must not look away from the present severe conditions, the suffering of the animals.

There are still a few volunteers who continue to save lives by making painful efforts themselves.

From your donations, we were able to get and set the sensor cameras.
We can check the cats that come to the feeding points.
We try to rescue them, we won’t give up.

This black cat may be one volunteer M protected recently.
Could another black cat be a different one??
It looks a bit like a brown tabby.
Keep an eye on it.

Another calico went into a capture cage which was set by Matatabi & Nekokatsu.
The next day, I checked and protected.

★Are there any owners?
This is a calico that has a long tale.
We can touch it.
No sterilization has been done.
FIV andFeLV negative.

About Us

Message from Akiko Yui, President and Founder of TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital
I believe that helping animals in need, existing in symbiosis with animals, and fostering a loving heart lead to an improvement in one’s character of kindness and generosity. The killing of animals due to decisions made by administration goes against my firm belief in preventing cruelty to animals. Animal Rescue Fund’s most important goal is to reduce the number of animals killed in Japan to zero by urging administration to change, reform, and improve the prevention of cruelty to animals. In order to reduce the number of animals in need, we work to raise awareness and support for the importance of sterilization operations. Each year, we spay and neuter more than 1000 stray cats. We are always putting animals up for adoption to help those lives already born in finding a loving home.

TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital:
We first opened our TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital in February of 2011 in an effort to make our dream a reality - to lower the number of dogs and cats killed in Japan to zero. At our hospital, we spay and neuter cats to reduce the number of unfortunate stray cats. Our hospital strives to help unfortunate animals in need of medical care.
The lives of numerous pets and livestock were lost as a result of the unprecedented earthquake and tsunami that occurred in Japan on March 11th 2011 and the radiation disaster caused by the stricken Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. Animal Rescue Fund goes directly to the 20km evacuation zone around the stricken Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant to rescue animals.
Animal Rescue Fund is based in Kanagawa Prefecture’s TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital. Therefore, the animals that we rescue from Fukushima Prefecture are brought to TNR Japan Animal Welfare Hospital located in Kanagawa Prefecture. Here, the rescued animals receive medical care and are returned to their owners or are put up for adoption.
We also work in urging the government and administration of Japan to support the protection of animals in need.
